I would like any information that might help me with the removal of the paint from these statues,they are plaster and chipping. I do not want to use anything harsh that might ruin the plaster. thank you.

Try using over cleaner with a quick wash and dish soap. Only allow the over cleaner to set on the painted surface for a few seconds with each wash. You might try this on a small piece of plaster to determine if there will or will not be any damage.
