seeds growable in zone 8greenspun.com : LUSENET : VictorySeeds.com : One Thread |
I live on the border of the Texas Coastal plains and the Texas Hill country. It's the difference between a semi-tropical zone, and a temperate zone, as the temperature fluctuates between 10 days of freeze in the winter, to weeks of 100 degree (F) weather in the summer and early fall. To add to our difficulties, we have a lot of kaliche, mixed in with a decent but hard dark clay soil. We are listed as zone 8, but that's not always accurate, as we are on the slopes of the Balcones Fault line here. I am looking for seeds in flowers, fruits, and vegetables categories which might conceivably grow here. We have conditioned the soil over the past 20 years, so it's not as hard as one might think, but starting with seed which is acclimated would be more than helpful to success. I am looking for lists of seed which might be available in these categories. Thanks! Gina Worthy
