The fact that we are going to war, doesn't change the fact that there are thousands, if not millions of kids suffering from cancer at St. Jude's hospital for Children....or other childhood illnesses....the kids use the cards to make items to sell at their store.....ML

? So you're saying that because we're going to war, we're no longer allowed to perform acts of charity?

As a Catholic, I am praying for a miracle of peace! Anything is possible with God and I am hoping that all the rosaries being said, masses offered, and prayers being said for peace, that we will not have to go to war....although it is most likely we will...I am not giving up hope for peace and a change of heart...that hardened hearts filled with hatred can be changed and they can be changed...through the power of prayer!I don't understand dof420@juke's comments...is he trying to say that I don't care about the possibility of our going to war? I most certainly do. One thing has nothing to do with the other...so I don't get the post.

dof,Your anger is horribly mis-directed. St. Judes Ranch (the charity mentioned here) runs homes for abused, abandoned and neglected children. They operate on donations. MaryLu cares about the welfare of children, so she shared this organization with us. Here's their website. They run homes in Nevada and California.
If you are upset about the US foreign policy towards Iraq, why blame the Catholic Church? If you would like to discuss the Catholic Church's position with regard to Iraq or US foreign policy, you should post on a new thread.
In Christ,
Mateo

Dof,May I ask what you are doing on a Catholic forum? There are other forums on the net that deal with world affairs, discuss the war situation, vent their anger towards our government, other countries, whatever...this is not a political forum - aren't there other forums where you can vent your anger?

According to dof, we should forget about helping abused children because of a potential war.dof, FYI, this is a moderated forum. You may want to read the rules of the forum.
Enjoy,
Mateo

Oh, BTW, dof write:"Matt, stay blind. Sure, I can wash my hands when others kill my brothers, it is a good thing, taking care of my hygiene, isn't it?"
dof, have you been speaking up against the repression (to the point of murder) by the Iraqi government against ethnic Kurds, other ethnic minorities, and non-Baath party members? I doubt it. Please get down from your soap-box.

Once again, "dof" (if that is your real name ;-) -- do you think that Catholics (or anyone else) must immediately cease all charitable efforts until the war ends?Should the Catholic Worker stop donating and running inner-city soup kitchens, because "we're going to war"?
Should the St. Vincent de Paul Meals-on-Wheels stop taking hot meals to elderly shut-ins, because "we're going to war"?
Should the government stop handing out welfare and unemployment checks, because "we're going to war"?
Your comments are completely illogical, in my humble opinion.

No, I don't get it. Why can't we do one good thing AND do another good thing? Why does it have to be "either/or"??

dof,Obviously, you are having fun entertaining yourself. There is nothing we can do about the war, except pray and we all are doing that.
Is there something else you have in mind that we can do to stop the potential war from taking place? If so, please let us know.
Life goes on, despite the fact that we may be going to war. Therefore, I will continue to do what I can to help the people in this country. Perhaps you would like to inform us what you are doing to help the war efforts? What are you doing, as an individual to prevent the war from taking place? If you have any solutions to the current problems we are facing, please enlighten us and maybe we can work together. In the meantime, there are things that need to be addressed now and I will do my part, as small as that part may be.
God bless you, dof and I do hope you find a website that fulfills your needs to discuss the war. When I want to discuss political issues, I do not use this website - there are far too many other sites for that.
May you find peace in your heart, dof. I will pray that Jesus bless you with his peace, his comfort, his stillness in times of anxiety. Obviously, you are very angst about the war - we all are, but there is really nothing we can do about it. Whatever is going to happen, will happen.
