A new site called Ostrichonline offers a service called Loancheck. Check it out because they have a way to check a mortgage and are completely on the side of the repossessed. It is free to check if you could have a claim on your mortgage.

I tried to do this and got no results - on either my old or new mortgage. When I looked closer at the LoanCheck site, there are a lot of marketing companies involved in the background and running of the site.

It looks like some solicitors have paid the marketing companies to hook you into the lobster net and then they bombard you with promises of sorting out all your problems.

Maybe my experience with Union Finance has made me cynical. But I am willing to bet my junk mail increases in the next couple of weeks.

One thing to bear in mind when using the services of someone else, even a solicitor or money adviser, is that they don't acknowledge the debt on your behalf, albeit inadvertently.

Please also bear in mind that in alot of cases, what money you hand over, you will lose if they happen to get caught out on a technicality in court and end up going out of business whilst representing somebody elses case.

If it all goes up in smoke, most of these type of companies are in no way liable. YOU are left to pick up the pieces and in some cases, they can make things worse - as I am sure any clients of Union Finance will agree.

By the way, I think you could tell the web site that you are Mickey Mouse and have a mortgage with Pluto & Co (if they belong to the CML). The "results" will still be the same - "there is a possibility that you have overcharged on your mortgage and would benefit from a full audit costing X amount".

I have asked them to remove my details, and have just received an email saying they will ensure my request is carried out. So maybe they are not all bad.

I think you will find loancheck them very helpful. There is no charge at all to check a mortgage and if you have any doubts, give them a ring and they will look at the mortgage. You never pay unless you have a case, you will never lose money either because they have a money back garrantee. They are very upfront and if you are up front with them they can be very helpful. They will also never contact you unless you want them to. I think some of them that work there have been on the wrong side of lenders and really do seem to be sympathetic to repossessions in my experience.
