What happens to F4 resale after F5 is released?greenspun.com : LUSENET : MV Agusta F4 : One Thread |
Now that the F5 or F4Mille is imminent to be introduced at the September show, what do you think is going to happen to the F4 750 prices? Is there going to be a glut of 750's on the market, with everyone jumping on to the F5? If I buy a F4-SPR this year, am I going to lose all kinds of resale value because everybody will want F5 models after this year? Will the release of the F5 drive down the new price of the later F4's as well as the used F4's? What effect do you think that this is going to have on the MV market?

Thing depreciate. It happens. However, I wouldn't worry about it too much. The F4 Mille is a different model altogether and not an updated version of the F4S. The Mille will also be more expensive than the 750cc F4S. And, chances are, the well heeled ones amongst us will add the F4 Mille as a stable mate to their F4S (especially if the F4 Mille has different body work as rumored). Will people sell their F4S for an F4 Mille? Yes. Will F4S values drop signifigantly? Probably not. If MV Agusta was creating a replacement for the 750cc F4S every other year and producing 50,000 units a year, then I would worry about the F4S' resale value.
Until then, ride, ride, ride. Unfortunate is the man who preserves his MV for 3 years and sells it for $14K with only 103 miles on it. :)
PS: Even if the F4 Mille is introduce in the Milan show ins September, how do you know it will even be on sale by January- February 2004?

It will not, speculation are already here too long. and SPR is two years late so why should a F5 be in time after launch.

Allan you took the words right out of my mouth. Resale value is secondary to me. Riding pleasure is the first and foremost factor in owning one of these great bikes. Why save it for the next guy?

Allan hit the nail on the head. I will ride the @#%$ out of my F4- S. That's what it was made for. At my last track day, some guy came up to me and said his boss has an MV, but only takes it out for about 200 miles per year and keeps it in his living room. That guy doesn't know what he's missing. Yeah it would look great in my living room. But it PERFORMS on the race track. I don't care if it depreciates to the cost of a jap 600 bike. I've enjoyed it and always will!

Well said everyone!

Ok guys, that's cool. I just wanted to see what everybody thought about that. I'm going to get an SPR and first break it in, and then I'm gonna ride it like it was made to do. I have wanted an MV for almost 30 years, and this is the first time I've been able to afford one. I've had Ducatis, Laverdas, Benellis, but never an MV. I'm dying to get on one of these. It is the most beautiful piece of motorcycle art that I've ever seen, and I know it will be the same on the road.

When it comes to cars and bikes I tell people all the time, only buy it because you want it/love it, not for what you think it will be worth someday!
