What, we have no Irish here?greenspun.com : LUSENET : FRL friends : One Thread |
Dang, time for me to kiss the blarney stone! My grandmother always told me I was Heinz 57. Who had corned beef and cabbage for dinner tonight? Raise your hands now... (keeping mine down, because my St Pat's dinner is always Rueben sandwiches-LOL-by popular demand!!). Now fess, up, who had green beer today???? (Where is Unk when ya need him-LOL!).

Er, even though my mother was from a Co. Cork Catholic family, I forgot about St. Pat's today. If I'd been in New Orleans I wouldn't have. I'd have been at the parade in the Irish Channel on Saturday and imbibing with the rest of them! That corned beef and cabbage routine is unknown (virtually) in England. St. Pat's is just another saint's day for the English, and perhaps the Scots and Welsh too.Did you know St. Patrick was English, by the way? He was the British slave of a Roman family.

Happy St. Pat's Day, Aunt Bee and O.G. Sorry no orange or green down here. Just English/Welsh in my line. Cheers.

Well, I've got the Irish, but not the time... sigh.My grandfather was a staunch orangeman, according to my mother. She told me once he'd be rolling in his grave with my insistence on wearing green. So now I look like halloween out of season; I wear an orange and green shirt :-)

Too funny Tricia! Sounds like my beloved mother-in-law who's mother (my grandmother-in-law? Is there such a thing?) was from County Cork. She always said, I'm orange Irish, and don't you forget it!! A few years back she spent a month in Ireland, and came back telling mealtime stories about every meal having at least three, yes THREE kinds of potato dishes on the table!

3 potato dishes? In honour of the shamrock? ;-)

Ya know I never thought about it like that Tricia! (Which is funny cuz I have a lil leprachun sitting on a pot of gold, with shamrock in hand, sitting on top of my puter {she brought it back from Ireland for me:!) I'll have to ask her and get back to ya! (The lil guy STILL hasn't helped me win the lottery...bugger!).
