Why pay for anime VCDs on ebay when you can make them?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Animes : One Thread |
Okay, I've looked at a lot of posts here and many people have suggested buying VCDs off ebay. I ask WHY? Don't you know you can make them yourself? All you need is downloaded AVI episodes, some time on your hands, a CD-R or CD-RW drive, some blank CDs, and 3 programs, two of which you can download absolutely free off of the internet. I guess the only reasons you would pay is: a) to you money is no object; b) you don't have the energy to do it yourself; c) you didn't know you could make VCDs; or d) you're too impatient to download the anime episodes.Anyway, if anyone is interested in turning their downloaded anime into VCDs just email me and I'll send you the information. It'll help you free up hardrive space and you'll be able to watch them through your DVD player.

I think the only reason people even buy bootlegged VCDs off of eBay is because A. They're ignorant bastards. B. They don't know what a CD burner is. or C. They're too damned cheap to get anything faster than dialup. Just my theory...

Armoredcav4,I only have a 56K dailup connection, and I still don't by VCDs off of ebay. I just have a lot of patientence when it comes to downloading. Besides I'm in college right now, I don't have the money to pay for anything more expensive than dialup. I'm definatly upgrading my connection when I graduate.^_^

Is there any way to make a VCD without a DVD Writer/Burner? (Like with just a CD Writer/Burner, but formatting beforehand?)

-=[)eathscythe,You only need a DVD burner if you want to make DVDs. To make a VCD all you need is a simple, CD-R burner and a few programs to convert your file from an AVI to a VCD. I can send you a simple guide on how to turn downloaded AVIs into VCDs if you want.

What I really want to know, is if you have to buy anything to do it... You seem to be pretty knowledgeable, so I ask you, Is it possible to do it for free? If it is, please tell me where I can learn how... And if there is no Tutorial, I'll give you the info to send me the info. like you said...

Okay, technically you can do it for free if you have a CD burner and a program that will allow you to make VCDs on your computer, but if you don't have one you'll have to buy one to make VCDs. If you have a program that will allow you to burn music CDs, see if it'll let you make video CDs (which are VCDs) too. I use Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum (it has to be the platinum version to make VCDs). The only thing is most of these programs will only make VCDs from MPEG files. Therefore you have to download a free program that will turn your AVIs into MPEGs. As far as tutorials go, there are plenty of them at http://www.vcdhelp.com. The only thing is the people who write the tutorials don't really simplify it enough for a beginner to really understand. The only way I learned was by teaching myself. I can send you my tutorial, which is very easy to follow, if you want. It's a little bit too long to post here. ^_^

I decided to post my VCD tutorial at my website. It kind of goes along with the website anyway, since it's all about providing information. Just go to the address below and click on the "How to make VCDs" link.My address: http://www.geocities.com/angela386935/index.htm

I have to admit, It's a lot simpler than I thought... I've already made VCD Gundam Wing Episodes 1-12 on 6 disks, and it hasn't required me to buy anything. I even made some nifty cases with a bust of the five gundams on the front to store my new creations in. The whole process of making a VCD and the proper case takes me about 30 minutes, not long at all really. The burning process goes fast, its the reformatting that takes so long. In case anyone is wondering, I us TMPGEnc, and Nero.
