Ques: Is this prudent or not. Does it go against Church laws?

No. The Eucharist is received whole and entire under either species, as taught by the Council of Trent.

Here's the documentation from Trent.

It's interesting to note that an entire heresy sprung up around the issue of receiving Communioon under both species.

May I ask please what is meant by species??

The bread and wine are the two species used in the Eucharist. The Eucharist may be received under either or both species.

You gotta admit, it does sound kind of odd. Somehow, I don't think thats what Christ Jesus intended when he broke the bread and shared it with his diciples; most of which were illiterate, simple minded men.

Species?

What have we done to his church?

The word "species", in its original and broad sense, means "an entity designated by its outward appearance". Kinds of animals were designated "species" because each kind of animal was initially defined on the basis of its morphological characteristics, that is to say, its outward form. The term "species" is applied to the bread and wine not simply because they are each individually identified by their outward appearance, but particularly to describe the concept that they maintain their outward form, even when their spiritual essence changes during the Consecration of the Mass.

Philip, you wrote: "Somehow, I don't think that's what Christ Jesus intended ..."

Well, we don't have to trouble ourselves with "think[ing]" about or figuring out "what Christ Jesus intended". The Church that he founded infallibly teaches us that this is exactly "what Christ Jesus intended." Receiving under one of the Sacred Species is sufficient, because each one contains Jesus, whole and entire.

If one rejects the Church's word and insists on seeing something in the Bible that indicates this, he need only turn to 1 Corinthians 11:27 to read ...
"Whoever, therefore, eats the Bread or drinks the Cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the Body and Blood of the Lord."

God bless you.
John
