I'm pondering about something... Perhaps you could help.

I was bored out of my mind this morning, so I turned on ABC Family. I saw this crazy show called Tokyo Pig. After watching it for a little while, I became very puzzled. I was asking myself, "Is this actually anime or even Japanime?" Reasons for confusion: 1) The art work makes Pokemon look like it was painted by Leonardo De Vinci. 2) The people don't act very Japanese. 3) The scenery/clothing does look very Japanese, but it's not drawn well. So my question is, is this show actually made in Japan or is it made by an American company attempting to make it look like it was made in Japan? Personally, I'd be very surprised if it was made in Japan, but hey I could be wrong. ^_^

I don't know Chris. I'm begining to think it's some kind of deception.

This has been bothering me for some reason (I guess it doesn't take much when you've only had 3 hours of sleep in the last 24 hours). Since no one seems to know the answer, I decided to do a little research myself.

It seems that Tokyo Pig is produced by Miramax Television, so I guess that means it's an American cartoon trying to pass itself off as anime. The audacity of Miramax making bad imposter anime!! I knew there was something fishy about it. ^_^

"Tokyo Pig" is produced by Miramax Television, in association with SME Visual Works, Inc. Bob Weinstein and Harvey Weinstein are the Executive Producers. Jamie Simone is the Producer with Barbara Schneeweiss and Sean McPhillips as Co-Producers. The original concept and character design are by Shiro Yadama and Yoshio Urasawa.

I think it was a partnership between Anerica and Japan, a very very bad one.

Definantly a bad one. It looks like they let 5 year olds draw it. Granted 5 year olds with a little bit of talent.^_^ The way the characters act it reminds me a lot of the WB cartoon, "Mucha Lucha." I don't know, the people just act a lot like children's cartoon characters in America. If it was a partnership with Japan, did they seriously tamper with the scripts when they dubbed?

This cartoon is, indeed, a Japanese original. It was written as a picture book by Shiro Yadama, the cartoon being based on the book. Check out the site at http://www2u.biglobe.ne.jp/~massange/SM/harebuta.htm Not every cartoon in Japan is "anime!" LOL
