You do know that "what is animes" is really bad grammer. If you know...well....then just ignore me. Any way the correct grammer is What ARE animes? or What is ANIME?

well, actually, he didnt know what "animes" are, so i can see where he might have deduced that "animes" was a singular noun instead of plural. Some english nouns are like that. Or.. he could just be dumb.. or grammatically lazy.

Anime is just short for Japanese Animation. It's basically a lot like cartoons, except the "artwork" is drawn diferently. some examples of anime would be stuf like Yu-gi-oh,Medabots and Pokemon. However most anime are not just for kids but some are specificall made with adults/teens in mind. (cowboy bebot) I hope this answers ur question.
