Kikaider is getting a pretty good sized fanbase now that the story line has shown itself to be interesting. The only real put off about the show is that most of the viewers today don't appreciate the old style art.

Most of the people who hate Kikaider don't have a clue about old school anime. Fortunately, I do. Grew up watching "Star Blazers" AKA "Space Battleship Yamato". Old school anime ROCKS!!!^^ And the new stuff isn't half bad either.

I've never thought about Kikaider as an old school anime. There's just nothing old about it. As for Astroboy and Speedracer, that's going to far back. As I've heard,there's an original Kikaider. With real people and all.Kikaider's not that bad, its just messed up in ways.Plus that episodes I saw last night was too much for me to handle.Anyways, its got a nice ending song in english and in japanese.

"Kikaider" is one of the best animes I've ever seen. A lot of the episodes send chills down my spine because they have such powerful messages. I totally identify with Jiro, as I have almost no friends and am almost never welcome anywhere. Along with "Inuyasha," this is one of the few television series I'm ever going to buy on DVD.

At first Kikaider seemed like a bad anime, but after a while, and you get over the animation of some of the characters, it's not half bad. At least its better than Reign. That show is AWFUL!! InuYasha is the best! ^_^

Kikaider isn't all that bad though. Why don't you all just come clean and sat it though? Ya'll like Kikaider, but Kikaider ain't got nothing on Inuyasha. In fact, I ain't seen an anime that is better than Inuyasha. Although, to me, Rurouni Kenshin has almost come close. Rurouni Kenshin keeps me on the edge of my seat.

Ok, I basically watch Adult Swim because of Inuyasha. All I have to say is that, the half hour before Inuyasha is NOT a waste of time. The half hour AFTER Inuyasha, on the other hand, is altogether CRAP!! I'm addicted to two animes: Inuyasha and Rurouni Kenshin....and Kikaider doesn't come close to them!!!

if anyone bothered to check the other kikaider threads, there are 16 episodes listed so far. Then it repeats, probably because they have to dub the rest or negotiate the rest from the dubbing studio. Plus, they're busy with Cyber 009, I think they're basically doing a tribute to Ishinomori or something. ^^; Someone running around here said they found 36 episodes, but so far I have only seen 16 titles from the adult swim information. I'll keep looking of course.

KIkaider kicks ass! The music is beautiful, the message is beautiful, so what if their necks are way too thick for their heads? Im pissed off that they're playing Reign and Lupin on Adult Swim. That shit sucks. I miss Bebop and Trigun. And yes, Inuyasha kicks some serious ass. I hope they dont cut off in the middle of that whole Koga thing again.

The problem I have with Kikaider is precisely that they ARE going with that retro, bad early-70s anime look. While I can appreciate this particular look in anime created DURING that period (Astro Boy, 8-Man, Speed Racer, blah, blah, blah), I have higher expectations in terms of quality and character design when it comes to anime created more or less in the present.

Call me spoiled, if you like, but anime's come a LONG way since 1972 and I can't help but believe that if they'd taken this story and created more realistically-drawn characters, rather than the buffoonish caricatures based on the original manga (made in the late 60s), the dramatic qualities of the show would be MUCH more powerful.

As it is, it just looks silly, and makes me NOT want to watch. Contrary to what some may say, emotional drama and goofy comedic character design rarely mix well. And based on the commercials I've seen, Cyborg 009's going to have the same problem: "Should we feel for the characters, or just be laughing at how clownish they look?"

Oi, Jason, you make good points, but that particular style of drawing is sort of a trademark of Ishinomori. I think it'd be kinda disrespectful to tell him now to redraw the characters he created years ago. I thought it was nice to keep it in par with the manga format though I can see they were still trying to modernize what they could (i.e. clothing...well, for some of the characters anyway.) I think the only real clownish looking guy is the detective, and he's supposed to look like a clown. Besides, it's kinda superficial to not like an anime just because it looks old. People like Lupin well enough. There are some who still even appreciate Dragonball. Besides, I think of it this way, between an anime that looks nice and an anime that has a kickass story, I'll take the one with the better story anyday.

I have to agree with Tenniyo. But, ppl, there are more Kikaider shows coming up. The one on Thursday wasn't the ending.......if it would have been, it wud have STUNK! But, if you go to www.cartoonnetwork.com and click on TV SCHEDULE, you can clearly see that there is a new episode: Jiro Meets Ichiro. And let's pray that they don't cut off InuYasha again (again!) at the Kouga part.

Tenniyo, I realize that the look of Kikaider is a tribute to the art style of his creator. However, I just don't think it adds anything to (and takes quite a bit away from) an anime that deals with such weighty (as opposed to comedic) subject matter, especially 30+ years after the original manga appeared. It just makes the show look dated and adds a strong element of silliness that takes away from the show's impact.

Lupin can get away with it, (1) because it IS a comedy and (2) because the cartoon was made in the 70s. I wouldn't criticize it anymore than I would "Battle of the Planets." I expect that style from a 70s anime... I don't expect (or want) to see it in a fairly serious anime made only 3 years ago.

Of course, this is only my personal preference. I know others disagree. I just keep thinking of the movie "8-Man After," and how amazing that movie was, using a more contemporary anime style (even though the original 60s version had the same "Astro-Boy" look as Kikaider), and imagining how much MORE I'd enjoy Kikaider if I didn't find the look of it so annoying and distracting.

Any good cartoon or comic is equal parts story and art... and for many people, the look of an anime has an even stronger impact than the story. If visuals weren't that important in determining the merits of good anime, we'd spend our time reading more books or listening to radio programs. We watch anime precisely because it provides something those other forms of recreation cannot: Strong visuals which enhance and further the story being told.

I just don't feel that Kikaider does it that well, with the retro style it's done in.

Nah, we disagree on some parts, but you present a very good argument. At least we can agree that it doesn't blow arse, if you'll pardon the expression that I decided to make up. xD You are right, some parts of the animation do take away from the quality and it could have been done better (what the hell is up with Hattori's chin!? x_X Is it a tumor?), and I heard someone say there was a slight error with the pinocchio storybook looking like it was trying to run away to any spot but where it was drawn (not sure how that happened, I must not remember). But overall, it was done pretty well. There was room for improvement, but then again, almost every anime has room for improvement.

I'm sitting here, reading some of your responses, and I'm appauled! First of all, those of you who say it sucks, or it's boring, you're entitiled to your opinions. The problem is, so am I. Any of you who say it sucks or it's boring obviously only care about fight scenes and killings and crud like that. The truth is, this series revolves a lot around humanity. And killing people only makes us humans into animals! Emotions are what separate us from the animals!

And another thing: Those of you who say it's a rip off of Ultraman Tiga (not mentioning any names), THE MAN WHO CREATED KIKAIDER (Ishinomori Shotaro, bless his soul) WAS ALSO THE CREATOR OF ULTRAMAN TIGA! HE CREATED POWER RANGERS, CYBORG 009, AND OTHER THINGS LIKE THAT! ...Then he died. So shame on you for saying it's a rip off of his OWN WORK! You don't even think to look it up and find out if you may be wrong.

Kikaider is different from other animes. And God knows I support being different. The character's designs relate to their personality! Like Hanpei Hattori (the detective). He's drawn comically because he's a laid back and funny kind of guy! Jiro, he's drawn like the main character should be drawn: different from the other characters. Mitsuko's drawn average-like because she IS an average girl. Don't you see? ... I believe I've made my point. E-mail me if you agree. Don't if you just want to curse me out like a neaderthal would.

I LOVE KIKAIDER!!! Although y'all might think that the art is bad, which is kinda true, the story's really different and i like that. it had me hooked from the first moment and i love it!! the only thing that sucks is that it's such a short show. i hope there's more. Kikaider has a new art style that i haven't seen before. And its quite good. The Art style shows the charcters emotions so well. And the story line is good. Its not a new idea but the way they made it was. Kikaider seems more drama than action to me. And i don't think that bad at all. I really hope they continue with this story. I would really like to see if Kikaider is still alive.

you know, there was a live action show in Japan created in the early 70's that this anime is based on, done by the same guy who did Power Rangers... same funny costumes, same crappy monsters, same basic story lines. Most of you should read Rae's post and pay attention to it, although most of you probably don't care but there is a term known as tokusatsu some of you might want to look it up... to mention things like VR Troopers... good god... Kikaider was made into an live action (tokusatsu) metal hero series in 1973, which was followed by the kikaider 01 series similar to their respective anime versions, maybe thats why the style is so "ugly"... but you should realize that anime of this kind is a certain tribute/homage and to appeal to fans OF kikaider... similarly anime like shin getter robot and such "old school" try to conserve the artistic notion of the original creators... I cant image any Go Nagai series without an echo of Go Nagai's style... it would be wrong... you want to watch "beautiful" anime keep watching Inuyasha...

Dude Kikaider rocks to the bone, the animation isnt its strongest point, but i dont think its badlly drawn, just a different style then most anime, i think that just sets it out from the rest. I think that robots rock any way. i think Jiro is so so so cool. and every thing about it rocks. The only anime that can compair to it is INUYASHA, The story, the art, the charictor designe, deamons, cool swords, tragidy, love, hate, death, life, cool ending songs, SIT!!! I think kikaider is a great anime people. It has depth, emotion, and an actual plot(unlike many animes and cartoons these days). I thpought it was iffy at first but I sat down watched it a couple of times and thought it might get better because of the ending they showed with Saburo/ Hakaider during the credits (is it just me or are the bada$$ characters always the coolest). Sure the anime is aged but who cares. I'm young but I see my generation as people who take things for granted. Reign sucks like everyone else says (I don't know anyone who likes it but their are probably a few fans)but unless it's flashy many people instantly hate it. That's why the cancelled the original Gundam series even though Gundam series are some of the best anime ever. Some new stuff is cool Like Bebop, Inuyasha, YU YU hakusho and DBZ but you should give old animes a chance.

Kikaider is quite amazing. The art style is very refreshing. Rather than draw the same face fifty times and change the hair (i.e. nearly every anime in the last 20 years) they characters have their own designs. Its a little silly but thats part of the fun. Plus Saburo is awesome. Now if you want ridiculous, check out the live action kikaider.

I gotta admit. I haven't seen any of the show yet, but still. My brother think it kicks.. Er.. You know the answer. *Snicker.* Either way, it comes nowhere near Inuyasha, and I like the fact though it's by the makers of Cyborg 009, that's good. Yea i was upset that they took away the awesome ending credits music i had just learned how to play the song on my guitar and then all of the sudden it was gone but o well Kikaider is Awesome! I also agree about the whole DBZ thing its liek the same thing over and over for weeks and weeks. Kikaider is not that bad and the animation is okay. As for Inuyasha, sorry to break it to everyone...INUYASHA is not only gonna stop at Koga but also gonna stop playing altogether. KENSHIN also rocks but after this week they will only play it on Saturdays instead of everyday. Cartoon Network needs to realize which shows are good. Oh and by the way, Sanosuke rocks!

Lupid the Third is just about some perverted man. The only people who watch that anime are perverted people who wanna watch some guy seduce women. That's not cool. At all. People say I'm too young to have such intelligence. 14 isn't a bad age to be dubbed a genius. Still, I'm able to recognize what type of people watch different cartoons/shows/animes. Personally, I believe Kikaider has the most down to earth, truthful, and heart-touching plot. Pinocchio is a great base for the storyline. So it's about a robot who wants to become a human. A human. Something that robots are forbidden from. It's rated PG for Fantasy and Violence. Fantasy? WHAT PERSON IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD RAISE THE AGE LEVEL SIMPLY BECAUSE IT'S FANTASY?!? Stupid people. I'm tired of stupid people roaming this earth. Unless they're actuall DOING something for this world. Which is why I'm trying to convince people to reconsider. It's a VERY good plot. Its storyline is VERY closely related to humanity as we know it. I'm just saying. WHEN ON EARTH DOES THE ANIMATION HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING?!? IF IT HAS A GOOD STORYLINE, SURELY THAT BALANCES IT OUT! People... I'm tired of you ignorant piles of waste, wasting your time watching such shows as Lupin the Third that don't build character. Or at least build people into worse people.

Michelle, how do you know about the schedule??? I'm serious, if they take out Rorouni Kenshin, yet alone InuYasha, someone's gonna have a bloody nose. I watched Cyborg 009, and it didn't appeal to me! Personally, I think that they should work on shows that kids LOVE (like Inu and RK)instead of creating new ones. They shouldn't leave the audience hanging, like they did with Pilot Candidate. That was a gr8 amine, but after a dozen eps, they left us hanging with the annoying "TO BE CONTINUED"! that's so irritating! Who else agrees with me? If you do, feel free to email me!

It's amusing how immature some people can be, sometimes. They judge things by their cover, not caring what the message the show puts across. This is the case for Kikaider. So many people take one look and instantly hate it, with out listening. I admit, at first, I could barely stand the character designs, but they do tend to grow on you... Kikaider goes deep into the ideas and morals of humanity that very few other shows do. It questions life in general, and what is really right and wrong... and human emotions. I think (and some will agree) that these sorts of thing are quite a bit more important that some thief seducing a woman...

Oh, and for all you Inuyasha fans, it's going away (unless Adult Swim moves it to Sunday) ... and Trigun (yay!) and The Big O are back... I suppose this would annoy me a bit more if I hadn't already seen up to Ep. 105 of Inuyasha... Please, don't attempt to kill me, I'm just telling what I know!

Well, I think it's safe to say that most of the people here are "thumbs up" for Kikaider and (most definitely) "thumbs down" for Reign.

I personally love Kikaider, as well as the form of artwork put into it. It's just different... "unique" if you will? And who doesn't appreciate diversity? If otherwise, then one might say you're prejudicial.

As an artist myself, I'd have to admit that I enjoy most anime (however, Reign can use a little work), but I think that as far as development of character and pure emotional heart value goes, other work pales in comparison to that of Kikaider. :)

There've been rumors going on that the last two episodes are part of the sequel. Kikaider 02, some say! Well, im down with that as long as the directors let us know what happened to Mitskou and the rest of the gang. And what's with this new chick? (though, i have to say that she is WAYYYY prettier than Mitskou!) And I, too, like Ichiro. He seems kinda like Inu. That I-don't-care-about-humans-all-I-want-to do- is-fight attitude. Well, I certainly didn't expect for the ep to end the way it did!!! Who would have thought that she was a ROBOT!!! Well, I don't wanna sound "evil" or nothing, but I'm kinda happy that she died! Mitskou is way cooler, if not prettier ;)! And plus, she's smarter. Also i have one other thing to say: How can Ray be the youngest (so far) brother? He sounds and looks to be the oldest! I want to know why people don't like Reign. I can understand why some people might not like it because of the art, but if you get over that it is a decent story. I have read some of Aristotle's writtings, and it very good. I like at the end how Cassandra attempts to kill Alexander (by Aristotle's orders) because some beleive that it was Aristotle who helpped poison Alexander (though some people think that he died of Malaria). Besides the fighting (which is one reason to watch) the two philosophers (three if you count the dead Plato)are interesting to watch (the Insane Socrates and Aristotle). Besides how can you not like it when the star of the show is Alexander. A man who, when Ceaser thought of him, made him weap, 'Do you think,' said he, 'I have not just cause to weep, when I consider that Alexander at my age had conquered so many nations, and I have all this time done nothing that is memorable?'"

yeah! Kikaider is a good show. Except for the last episode. gil takes control of Jiro but it doesn't work and Jiro just turns evil and blows up Ichiro and Ray. Jiro then turns completely human and kills Gil and the lab blows up and Jiro dies to. That really sucks!!! Other than that Kikaider is a really good show. But it doesn't compare to Inuyasha and Rurouni Kenshin. They are the best! It makes me mad that Adult Swim is going to take off Inuyasha at the Koga episode again. Well at least they're taking off Reign and Lupin, the two crappiest animes ever made. They're finally going to put Trigun back on. Big O will be coming on as well.

i'm kinda bored so i feel like naming all of my favorite anime character's attacks. okay!

Inuyasha:iron weaver soul stealer, blades of blood, wind scar

Kenshin:i don't really remember any of his attacks. all I know is what he says before every one. Hiten Mitsarugi Style Technique!!!

Jiro/Kikaider: Electric Hands, shoots laser beams out of his eyes {he only did this once when he blew up Ichiro and Ray.}

Ichiro/Kakaider 01: Sunrise beam, he also has a gun.

Ray/Kakaider 00: Cutting Hands, he can shoot out a lot of lasers, also shoots a green laser beam from his hands.

Miroku: Wind Tunnel.

Seshomeru: Poison claw, He has a whip that cuts through things.

well i'm tired of naming attacks. I have some more favorite characters though. I just don't feel like naming any more attacks

Kikaider is soooo awsome!!!!! It's my all time favorite show. The only flaw is that it's sometimes is too fast to follow. I started watching it late and it took me awhile to see what was going on, but when I did I got into it. The episode in which Kikider kills the robot Gill left me craving for more. Inuyasha is really good too.

Hey you guys I noticed on the internet there was a Kikaider Movie I wonder what That's about but... Heh I'm gonna buy it anyway The story was sad, since he turns all the way human does he survive? I don't know it never shows the end on adult swim, it does in Japan... but not on adult swim. Well I'm gonna buy the movie and the episodes (including the bonuses -13-17-)while I buy the Inuyasha movie (SPOILER: when the second comes out I'll buy it too... I can't believe they kill Naraku on the spot and he comes back, what a jip! ok, ok I know it's not tied up with the Manga!)But it really did Suck with Mitsko not being in the last episodes, and He promised For God sake! (or at least he nodded a yes to her promis) I can't believe all He needed was a evil mind to turn human... maybe he isn't human, and that's why they made the movie? dunno... oh well better get going you guys... love story is gonna start all over in Inuyasha's place, and Then in August Guess what? I started a riot on the internet and convinced them to make more episodes in English, isn't that great? I happen to like Kikaider. A lot of people seem to dislike the animation, but because it's so different from most of the anime being currently shown, I actually enjoy it.

I mean, sure, everyone loves their pointy CLAMP chins, huge shoujo eyes, and perfectly sculpted faces in anime, but you see so much of the same character designs it's nice to see something unique.

And I cried on the last episode, even though I'm a bit confused as to what happened.

I'm not sure how it's possible for the submission circuit in Jiro to cause him to become human.

Unless it somehow messed with his conscience circut and made him want to kill or something? Maybe killing a human gave him a soul of his own or something like that? *shrugs* Of course, he could have been saying that he was human, but he was really implying that to be human he has to experience killing a human being......

Why are they getting the habit of ending Kikaider in such sad endings? I mean he made her a promise man, and who knows if he ever comes back for Mitsuko! I don't know of you guys, but I was so mad when I saw the episode Jiro meets Ichiro. I mean your thinking what the heck happened here? He's with some girl and a little boy and later you find out the boy is Gill's son? I mean who ever thought of that? I mean if Gill ever had a child then that's one ugly boy. I was clapping my hands and cheering when that Gill kills that ugly yellow robot girl thing. I have to admit. The girl had more looks then Mitsuko but thats not a good reason to take Mitsuko, Masaru, and Dr. Komyoji out the picture. That really sucks. I don't know what you guys are talking about that the drawings are old and stuff but I like 'em. I mean Jiro is cute and yeah the detective looks really goofy. I admit it, the necks are kinda wide ( I mean, Mitsuko is pretty but her neck....). And have you seen Mitsuko's mom's eyes? They're freaky. They should do like new episodes that INCLUDES Mitsuko, Masaru, and Dr.Komyoji. I'm kinda happy they're going to give re runs 'cause I didn't even see the first episodes ( The first Kikaider show I saw was the one Jiro is in a city and it's raining. I fell in love with the anime just with that show). I can't believe what you guys are saying about Inuyasha! ah...one more thing, before I stary annoying anyone even more then I already am... @__@

When 'Reign' first came on, I was severely turned off by the character designs and the.......cod peices.. OH, THE COD PEICES! *shudders*

But after finishing the series, I found that I actually liked it.

It was very interesting how they took history and added a touch of science fiction to it and it had excellent characterization.

I still disliked the animation style, but I wasn't going to stop watching Reign because of "bad" character designs.

As I stated before, it's nice to see anime characters who have such unique character designs.

Sometimes the character desings won't appeal to me, and sometimes they will, but I still appreciate all the thought and detail that the creator(s) put into their characters and I have to commend them for taking such a different approach to the anime style.

Of course, I'm a big art fan and when I look at anime I think....art. To me...Reign is sort of a...Picasso. Abstract, but attractive in a sense of differentaion.

yeah, everyone's been wondering where mitsuko went. i was wondering that too when in one episode, i can't remember which one, someone got a pinocchio book and said that it was at mitsuko's house but there was no one there and that it looked abandoned. so maybe they all moved somewhere else. as for jiro, WHAT HAPPENED!!! did he die? that's what i thought at the end of episode 13 where he kills gill for the first time, but then he was alive, so i don't know. oh well.

Not EVERYBODY hates kikaider! Personally, I love it! I preordered the first DVD today and it'll be here by....August ;_; I CAN'T WAIT THAT LONG! The ending of the OVA made me cry, it was so touching! Then again, I cry easily ^_^'' Anyway, the point is, old anime is good when you look past the animation (personally, I like the simplicity of the characters, it keeps you more tuned in on the story instead of staring at the pretty graphics...although I find myself staring at Jiro often ^_^''). Kikaider has a very deep story if you care to listen. I'm sure the live-action one had a good story too, but nobody could really catch it because they were too busy laughing at the badly made monster costumes :-P Hey, what do you expect from a movie made in 1972? Anyway, the point is that Kikaider is a great anime regardless of what ignorant people say! And, no matter how you try and insult his animation, Jiro is one of the cutest bishonen ever!!

Yeah Yeah, I just posted a few minutes ago, but I didn't read all the entries before, and now I have, so I'm gonna clear some stuff up for you guys: The stuff they just showed after the 12 episodes was the OVA, not more episodes. There may be more episodes to come, I've been shopping for the DVDs and there are four of them available, each having 4 episodes, meaning there should be another 4 episodes we haven't seen yet. I'm not totally sure when the anime was made, but the live-action one was out in 1972, and I doubt the anime was far behind it. Remember, Kikaider was out in Japan before it came to America, so it may have been around since the late 1970's or 1980's, which WOULD explain the old animation style (but who cares, the anime would still be great even if they were stick people!) I'll post more after some more research, bye!

Yeah, I didn't like then ending either! I may like Kikaider, but I don't love it enough to buy the DVD's. Personally, I have other more important things to spend my money on. I'll wait for Cartoon Network to put the remaining eps on air, even if it takes one (maybe two) lifetimes. The only show that I MIGHT buy the DVD's of is InuYasha. That show, I am in LOVE with.....it's so sad that they are going to take it off air. Cartoon Network really need to ask their audience's opinion before ruining Adult Swim.

Kikaider is a good anime when I first saw it on Adult Swim I knew it did not look half bad but the reason most people hate it is a.) when they see the first episode they dont understand that episode is all about creating the foundation for the plot. b.) If they saw and episode later on lets say 7th episode they would not like it because they dont understand whats going on. c.) They hate old school Anime. d.) Bad news for you InuYasha fans and good news for your Big O and Trigun fans and Reign haters. It seems that they have taken InuYasha off the air (check out the schedule at http://www.adultswim.com). Doesn't matter anyway. My theory is the reason why Adult Swim kept stopping the series before "The Man Who Fell In Love With Kagome" is because Viz Productions hasn't dubbed the Japanese series after that episode yet. So be patient and perhaps we'll get new episodes soon. Reign has been taken off and replacing it is Trigun Sunday-Thursday at 1:00 AM. Kikaider takes over Inuyasha's place Monday-Thursday at 12:30 AM and Big O moves into the 12:00 spot Monday-Thursday. As for Kenshin which a couple are asking about, I believe Cyborg 009 took its place during the regular weekdays so Kenshin now airs at 9:30 PM, I believe, on Saturdays.

Kikaider is a LOT better anime than Inu-Yasha or Ruroni Kenshin. For one thing, the americans butchered the anime when they went and dubbed and censored it, making it horrible. (I'm talking about kenshin and inu yasha) Another is that kenshin and inu-yasha has one of THE WORST story line.

In Kenshin, all that happens is that some bad guy pops out and challenges kenshin or what-not and kenshin beats him without killing him and the story goes on about that for 90+ eps!

In Inu-Yasha, the drawings are great. But honestly, it's the same story too. Inu-Yasha and company are out to collect the Shikon jewel shards and while they're at it, Inu-Yasha fights and becomes stronger. Honestly.

Kenshin and Inu-Yasha can be compared with Dragonball on how montonous it gets.

Kikaider however is different. It does have pretty crappy drawings when compared to animes out nowadays but overall the drawings not that bad. Added to that, it has a GREAT storyline with a tremendous amount of character development and surprises.

Final word: Animes should be watched for the storyline of it, not for how well it is drawn.

I for one like just about all the anime i watch i like Kikaider because of its story line and because they have Robots in it. i miss the old speed racer cartoons as much as the others who liked it. I didnt think that kikaider had that bad of animation it just has a different style then what people are use to. i dont base the cartoons i watch by what the animtion is like but what the content of the show has. well all the people that can enjoy anime with out ciriseing it for what it looks like or what the story line is they are the true fans of anime thats all i have to say.

Gosh, I just saw ( picture actually) the old Kikaider show ( AKA Kikaida). I almost cried. I mean, sorry, but it's like the power rangers all over again. I've never seen something so weird. Jiro, who looks so cute in the animation, is UGLY. No comments on Mitsuko and Masaru. I mean the robots look so fake. I know, I know, what can I expect of a show made in the 70's? But I'm only stating the obvious.I know lots of people are going to be saying, " what can you expect...blah....blah," but that only my opinion. I've never seen something so crappy. SO all of you people who hate kikaider the animation then your going to see worse with Kikaida.I have nothing else to talk about. I really did get into this. I wish I could see Inuyasha. I only saw the last two episodes and I was looking forward to the epison that the wolf guy falls in love with Kagome. Too bad. I was getting so interested......*cries* I heard they're saying there's going to be new episodes. I'm going to be all messed up. I dunno nothing bout Inuyahsa except what I know from the two episodes ( which you can cunt as nothing compared to what all you guys know). I also like Kikaider. I really don't mind that it's an 'old anime' (probably cause i'm new to anime *shrugs*)Also I hate the ending it was such a rip-off!!!!!! InuYasha Rocks,so does Rurouni Kenshin.And in a weak attemp to come back to Maverickmage: Inu and Rk have great storylines.He has a point on how americans butcher the anime ,but still has he seen the whole series?(bet you he hasn't)don't mean any disrespect just trying to prove a piont. Well, I've seen most of them and the story lines is great. Spoiler Alert!!Such as Kouga and Ayame.

As for RK the storyline is even better. Kenshins oath of not killing anymore and not wanting to become the manslayer again impact the decisions that he has to make.Also the romance between the characters is great and the fighting is awesome!Finally how all the people Kenshin & co. meet have some ties with enemys is ironic.See my weak attempt. lol.Sorry to bore you : )

*cries* God, I've never seen something so sad. I'm crying. I saw the REAL ending of the OVA series. It was so sad. But I knew the superhero never dies! (Spoiler)Jiro LIVES! I'm so happy. It was sad and at the eneding you could hear some person's voice say the ending of Pinnochio(sp?) and you feel this sadness in you heart. My heart is aching. It ended like the other time. Jiro is walking and he looks back. He's like crying and you feel horrible.There's like something in his eyes that makes you want to cry. Poor Jiro. I HOPE that they make another ( much longer) series of Kikaider. I bet he goes back to Mitsuko ( I hope or I'm going to be angry. If they do make one, and Mitsuko isn't in it, FORGET YOU, KIKAIDER!). I know what you mean ( who was it that said that). I want to see the re runs of Kikaider but there seems no point to it. Well, I have to though.I never saw the beginning. I don't think Jiro ever did fall in love with what's her name ( I'm not talking about Mitsuko). Anyways, in a way, what's her name was Jiro's sister. She was based on one of Dr. Komyoji's designs but Gill was the one who actually built her. But still their kinda half brother and sister(?). No, I kinda don't understand myself. Hope you do. Well I watched the fist episode of the re runs. I loved it. Okay, I admit it. It was my first time to see the first episode. I didn't start watching Kikaider until that one episode he's in that rainy city place. Where he meets that one lady. In a way she remind me of Mitsuko. Mitsuko's waiting for Jiro to come back for her and he never did. Hmm. He's so mean. I bet if they do new episodes, Mitsuko HAS to be in them. I mean I'm dying to find out if Jiro comes back for her and if he doesn't then his love for her wasn't as strong as he claimed. I mean that one show of the OAV series where the old guy tells them it seem like the Komyoji's weren't in their old home for a long time, it seemed like Jiro didn't care. Thanks Michelle, but I already have that song. The specific tune I am looking for is the guitar solo Jiro is taught by that random guy on the street in an early episode of series one. Jiro then copies the tune perfectly and the random guy gets mad because he thought Jiro lied to him about never having played the guitar before. It plays as Jiro is talking about the upcoming episode, not during ending credits. Oh, and as far as my two cents are concerned, Kikaider (first thirteen episodes) were good. The story was good, though it was a bit melodramatic. I liked the animation for the sole fact it threw something different at me (kind of like the new Zelda game). Most anime today just look the same. It just gets boring when you can't distinguish art style of a decent anime from a Hentai. As far as that OVA crap for Kikaider 01, that was dissapointing to say the least. Even the animation looked sloppier. But, once again if anyone can help with the song i am looking for, I will be your friend for as long as I can stand you.

Everyone who has been Angry about Mitsko not being in the last four episodes I know why, The last four episodes are actually the movie split apart, that's why there is no title at the beginning of each episode. Kikaider is an awsome anime. I saw the OVA and I don't know what people's problem is. SO he doesn't go back to Mistiko for a while. I like Ichiro and Rey and thought it sucked at the end how every single person in the OVA dies at the end. Also if you want new episodes we should start a petition or something to the creators to carry on the series. Also I'm gfiving Big O a chance but it seems to just be a rip off of Batman and Gundam, speaking of which they should definitly bring the Gundam series back other the G Gundam which I like but there are much better ones like Wing and 0083

The thing is, people are/did/will judge Kikaider because of the animation first hand. I can easily say, I find you pathetic if you are so shallow as to judge a book by it's cover. The anime fans today are spoiled, they do not realize that eye candy is everything, you can't just hate an anime because it isn't pretty visually.

Even anime like Kenshin, which everyone thinks is gorgeous has those days where the animation is horrible, why? Because the series always have several head artists in charge with certain ammounts of episodes and when one artist is in charge, the way the characters are animated change. Just look at BSSM, every few episodes of Sailor Moon, and there would be a total animation change and sometimes my friends would even groan at the look of the episode.

Now, I must say... those of you calling Kikaider ugly must look at the manga for some of your favorite series like Inuyasha or once again... Kenshin. As much as I love these series, visually they aren't the prettiest thing to look at. I know a lot of my friends wouldn't even give Ranma 1/2 or Inuyasha a chance because of how it was drawn. Let me also remind you that Inuyasha doesn't have the best visuals in the anime either, sticking true to their original character designs.

Now, those who are calling this plot unfresh and "a rip off" must also realize that every anime series comes from the basic cookie cutter, and no matter how much you like an anime something about it will seem like a ripoff of something else.

The plot in Kikaider follows the story of Pinocchio, yet more tragicly. Many "not so pleasent" things happen in the series, and if you have a problem with it... Why are you even watching Adult Swim? Adult Swim is twisted in so many ways, it's not even funny. The only reason you're bitching about this is because you saw Chigusa blow her brains out at the end of the Frozen Bonds. If this bothers you so much, then obviously you aren't old and/or mature enough to be talking anyways.

I for one did like the morbid warp Kikaider had, I can't say I liked the OVA so much as the series but it was just as good. Kikaider will always be one of my favorite series, and if you don't like it.. Good, don't like it. But, jesus, don't bitch about it.

Well, judging from what i've just read, most the people who responded like the show, but then, there are the people who don't like it. These are the same people who love Dragon Ball Z and think it is the coolest.It's stupid and repetative, but that's not the point, Kikaider is a good show (even though i haven't seen alot of it, "Can an android be human?" how can it be bad?) as for the art, there's nothing wrong with it, it's just different,it's like cell-shaded games, their still good. Ok look Trigun Inuyasha Kikaider and Lupin the 3rd are all cool Inuyasha's cool because its about a half-demon that gets a girl gets a sword and kicks ass. Kikaiders cool because its deep how he's a robot and falls in love with a human and wants to protect her. Triguns cool because its a really deep storyline and has comedy and ass kicking, one of my favorite shows with inuyasha and stargate sg- 1. Lupin the 3rd is cool but you're looking at it wrong its a comedy your not gonna get big action scenes with fighting and ass kicking like the others. Reign...........Ok Reigns just gay but if they didnt dress like females and look like females and move like females and walk around naked I dont know if it would be good, I've never watched an episode. I dont know if this was already answered, but the whole submission/gemini/human thig is because when Jiro was built, the gemini was actually an order rejection unit to prevent kikaider from following orders from enemies, but it was too strong and overrode all programming to want to destroy, but due to being incomplete, the flute/whistling shut it down when he heard it. Anyway, since the gemini prevented him from wanting to destroy, he was only good. With the installation of the submission circuit which input orders to destroy INTERNALLY, the gemini constantly fought back. Since it was incomplete, however, it couldn't completely suppress the submission circuit's orders to destroy. He was then emotionally human since in his heart, there was a constant struggle between light and dark as the gemini and submission circuit conflicted, as is in humans. No human is entirely good or evil, and neither was kikaider. Oh, and BTW, Lupin is pretty cool, the only reason i watched it at first is cuz it made the cop look like an idiot, lol! REIGN SUCKS! INUYASHA IS FAVORITE ANIME! Kikaider is second tied with Kenshin. And the only reason InuYasha was cut off is so A/S could catch up on dubbing english voices to NEW EPISODES FROM JAPAN!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ya i really got confused when mitskou disapeared i read somewhere that it was because of the 2 different show seasons.Seasong 2 starts when Jiro meets Ichido'. Season 2 could of been watched all by itself. I think they should of kept mitskou she was a major influence on his emotions in season 2?!?!. Kikaider is just an awful series. Where to begin? I'll start with the look. For one thing, the producers are obsessed with using bad digital technology. For years, we've had the analog technology to cut down on costs with things like pans and make the end result look good, but bozos like these would rather use their computers to save even more money and time and make it look awful. Sure, working digitally gives them more control, but these people must really be cheapskates if the end result looks this bad. Have you noticed how hokey the picture looks every time they do a pan? It's called aliasing. This tells you that someone was thinking digitally and on a budget. It's a major turn-off. But there's more to it; a pan should take us across a scene to show us the interresting aspects of different portions of it. Often in Kikaider, a pan will be used to show... nothing! Also in the visual department, any talent the artists who actually have to draw the characters may have is wasted on bad character designs: Chin Man, Glasses Girl, Butt Man (Jiro)... I don't care if the original manga looked like that! Teach Mr. Ishinomori to draw! (I don't care how dead he is!) And the characters always talk with dumb-looking frowny faces. I second what Jason Robinson said. Art IS important. Character design IS important. It isn't that these characters aren't pretty. It's that they're absolutely ugly and unappealing visually. Bad character design was one of the things that murdered Metropolis. (I'd make more complaints about that awful movie, including its dishonest depictions of violence, but that's for another time.) These things combined with the show's sparse use of actual character motion don't make Kikaider look unique in a good way; they make it look like a halfway job and a half-hearted effort. Kai Doh Maru did the sparse thing somewhat better and really created something nicely stylized, but even then the style was unappealing. The show's premise blends elements of Pinocchio (a manufactured thing wants to become real), Blade Runner (can a machine love or do other human things?), and Frankenstein (being an outcast because you're unique, being brought to life by science) to make a story that really isn't all that special or entertaining. Even though I don't know all the elements of the plot, a good plot is nothing without good storytelling, and from what I've seen, the show doesn't even have a good plot, and the storytelling is terrible. They're taking it nice and slow for the kiddies so everything sinks in (within an episode) and throwing in snatches of emotion for good measure but without setting them up well. Jiro carrying a guitar on his back and riding a motorcycle is not enough to make him cool. In all aspects, the show screams "cheesy". I watched the it once and decided not to watch it again. I gave it a second chance, however, and I decided that I was right the first time. Twice is enough; it really is. My first viewing was the debut. It had all the horrible things I've mentioned (except some characters who I assume came along later). It relied very heavily on panning to show motion, and every pan suffered from aliasing. The action and imagery were very dull. I decided immediately that someone had very stupidly put a kiddie cartoon on Adult Swim. The second episode I saw had even more bad character designs (Chin Man, Glasses Girl, etc.) It ended with Jiro destorying these nasty androids that had come to kill him. Masaru got angry because he stupidly thought they were his friends. He cried out, asking Jiro why he killed them. No answer. They were going to kill Jiro, idiot! They said it right in front of you! And they also said they would have killed you and Mitsuko! They were using you! Why didn't anybody just tell him that so the show wouldn't end with blairing stupidity? Why is this show on Adult Swim anyway? It isn't too violent for kids, it doesn't acknowledge sex as even /existing/, there's no swearing, it doesn't have amazing artistic sense, and it doesn't have the seriousness or intelligence to get a lot of adults to like it. I can guess why they stuck it in Adult Swim: some idiot executive thought the plot would be too complex for the little children. Trust me: it wouldn't. It would be perfect for them. It would be perfect for Nick Junior. Or perhaps execs thought adults would like the oldschool look because it brought back memories. "Oldschool" doesn't mean "good" or "bad". For just about any style, something can be done well or done badly; Lupin is an oldschool style done relatively well (that /is/ Hayao Miyazaki and his pal Isao Takahata at work, after all), and Kikaider is a part-old and part-new style done very badly. And as an anime, Kikaider is a disgrace. I'd hate for people to think it's representative of Japan's cartoon industry. I like anime because it freely does things that most American cartoon producers think could never be done in a cartoon medium. I think you could easily come up with a list, but in case: using violence or innuendo, making adult-level thrillers and dramas, provoking meaningful thought, carrying amazing emotional weight, etc. Kikaider does none of these things, and it could easily be a Saturday-morning or weekday-afternoon kiddie cartoon from America (Batman had far more punch than Kikaider, and it was animated in the early- to mid-90s and has aired at both of the aforementioned times). Kikaider is featherweight entertainment; don't even /try/ to tell me it's an incredibly moving piece of work. Watch Grave Of The Fireflies to see anime that really /is/ moving. Kikaider kinda tries, but it's trying to be moving at a kids' level, so it ends up being weak. As for provoking thought on what it is to be human, the show's inspirations and other works of fiction did it much better. The plot and storytelling are pathetic. The only emotional response the show got from me was disgust. Putting it on Adult Swim is a crime; it takes time away from better programs which are actually adult-oriented that could be shown in its place.

As for Reign, Reign is Peter Chung. This is the way he is. He's famous for animating Aeon Flux. He also was responsible for The Animatrix: Matriculated. He's got his own style. It's kinda like Saturday Morning Action Cartoon fare for the hip college MTV crowd, and it makes him a god to some people. There's an enigmatic quality to Reign that other Swim shows lose after you become familiar with them. In a world full of people who are self-concious about their sexuality, Peter Chung gives us cartoons that suggest sexuality and are entirely comfortable with it; nobody in Reign seems to care about Alexander's choice of dress, and that invites viewers to just put their hangups aside and accept it as well. They can forget about some of the lines society has drawn seperating the masculine and the feminine and see the characters as being cool for what they are. It doesn't mean the viewers are gay; it means they aren't uptight and homophobic. I can dig the style; partway anyhow. To some extent, I feel I can take it or leave it. Why do you want to clothe the characters? It gets hot out there. Inuyasha is good. It kinda turns me off some of the time, though. Kagome's valley girl dub can be mood-inappropriate in some scenes, and there are times when it feels too much like it's resting on its comic book laurels. I like it overall, though. I want to see more, and I will soon enough. We should all relax for the moment and let the dubbing and [shiver] editing crews in Canada catch up. Kenshin, Hakusho, and Yugio have a common problem: the characters talk and talk and talk and talk, then they finally get around to doing something, then they talk and talk and talk some more. They don't get enough accomplished in a single episode. (I will concede, however, that the first 8 Hakusho episodes really had things happenning and were excellent.) Bebop and Trigun are two of my favorite shows. I have my standing loyalty to Garfield (the show had a lot of wit), and I like a lot of the more intelligent cartoons being made here in the states (older Simpsons episodes, Dilbert, etc.), but Bebop's my personal favorite series (of any kind). Parentheses are not a toy. Bebop should be put back on the air so I can tell my friends to stay up for an intensely cool cartoon show called Cowboy Bebop. As for Trigun, I like the way that Vash is both as crazy and as serious as I am. Outlaw Star I don't need to see on TV anymore because I bought Pioneer's official box set of it. If the network puts the show back on the air, the execs had BETTER rethink the editing from scratch! Putting a show on Adult Swim after it has been edited for Toonami is NOT acceptable! And don't tell me I simply can't dig oldschool. Speed Racer has been cited here, but it was really kid fare, as was the original Gundam series (action for the kids). I'm into more potent stuff. Not only do I enjoy Lupin III (the characters have oldschool charisma, and the makers had dirty minds), but I had the motivation to dig back in the career of Leiji Matsumoto (who I knew for his Daft Punk videos) and find the gem of a series Space Pirate Captain Harlock. I've seen some of the Italian dub version (Capitan Harlock), and I've become quite fond of it. The show is rife with artistic detail and spacing, and I recommend it to all of you (plug plug). Subs are available from Corn Pone Videos. Note: the recent OVA Harlock Saga is a new show done in an old style; it isn't the same kind of beautiful cartoon experience that the original series was -- in fact, it's a horrible little 6-episode affair -- but the animation style does work, unlike Kikaider's. (Matsumoto also did Space Cruiser Yamato, but I'm afraid I haven't been fortunate enough to see it.) Also, don't say I'm shallow and require action and innuendo in my anime. Grave Of The Fireflies is one of my all-time favorite movies, and what I love about it is the emotional potency. There is some gore, but it's not heart-racing action gore; it's the kind that's intended to make you feel sorrow, and it does a very good job of that. In fact, the whole movie inspires great sorrow. You learn right in the beginning that Seita and Setsuko will end up dying, but it still hits you hard when you finally see it. It brought me, critic Roger Ebert, and my high school music teacher to the brink of tears the first times we saw it. This is another recommendation from me to you. The anime serieses of today do not all look alike. There are very real differences in character design and color balance.

I wrote this while reading what other people had said. A lot of thought went into this post. I noticed a lot of closed-mindedness in some posters, Rae especially. They denounced TV shows and people who liked them or said that things were awesome without one word about why. I do it a little bit myself, but the majority of what you'll find here carries a lot of thought. Nothing is objectively good or bad. It's all a matter of taste, and to my taste, Kikaider is abysmal. I'll be glad when it's gone. If you want to argue with me, don't nitpick intesively at what I said, because I really feel I was accurate most of the time. If you want to email me, don't. But if you do anyway, remember that punctuation and good grammar are your friends.

Jiro and Mitsuko's family are now seperate. Ichiro is Kikaider's brother, but he has no Gemini. The Girl, Reiko is protecting Akira, who is Gill's son(god knows who'd have Gill's son...), who gill claims is the key to the ultimate weapon. And The "Sex Scene" is Mitsuko fixing his arm. Kikaider can't have sex, lol!

I am a fan of kikiader. I like the series. The charicter Jiro is like a little kid you have to teach him everything. I did not know that it was old scool. I like all the charicters and setings. I don't know why anyone would hate the show kikiader. I like all the charicters, setings, and the story. I want the series to keep going. I want to find out if Jiro would go back for Mitsuko, if Jiro will keep his promise he made to her. The promise he made that he would reture home. In the show you know Jiro and Mitsuko Love each other. We wantto see the both of then back together. We want to see Jiro kepp his promise. My favorite charicter is Jiro he is a android how wants to be someone. this series deserves to keep going. Who ever says that Kikaider sux is outta their mind. Kikaider is one of the best shows I've seen. It has internal conflicts, romance, and action. But I have to say that the show is too short. I mean 16 episodes is just isn't enough. Everything about the show is great to me. But what was up with the last 6 episodes? They just suddenly cut Mitsuko out of the show and Jiro all of a sudden is looking after a woman and this little boy. They need to work on the story line a bit more. The last episode, I would have to say is the most touching episode I've ever seen. Although I felt that it was wrong for it to end the way it did, not knowing what happened to Jiro or if he'll ever go back to Mitsuko. I also love the ending theme song. This show also reminds me of Inuyasha, which is also an ok show, but i just wish that they would bring it back and finish it. I would also like to see the movies. Kenshin rocks! DBZ rulez! I have to say that I'm just head over heals for Gohan.

Ok, I agree with outcast, it did have a terrible ending. To the person who said they didn't have sex: they did. They showed a brief scene outside of the hideout with a piece of debris (a pipe, nonetheless) entwined a bush. It's called the pipe/bush theory. Thanks to Tadilau for coming up with the name. (And you know what a pipe in a bush means :wink, wink:)
