Exemptions to RCIAgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread |
Are there any exemptions to the formal RCIA process? I know that Robert Bork was welcomed into the Church after personal consultation. I ask this because someone who suffers from PTSD, and is unable to participate in group sessions, is trying to find out. As for Mass, it is much different as he is focused on the Mass. However, his documented problem with the small group atmosphere is real.

Yes, private instruction provided by a person approved by the pastor is a permissible alternative which can be employed for a variety of reasons, including persons whose health would make attendance at the group sessions an undue burden. I have provided such instruction for a couple of different people who were housebound for health reasons, including one who was bedridden. I also know of a case where in-home instruction was provided for a person who was under house arrest. The situation you describe should certainly qualify, assuming that a suitable instructor is available.
