I have a "Baby" Browning 25 Auto about 35 years old. It was well taken care of; no rust. The problem is that it will not cock with or without a round and/or magazine in place. I would appreciate any suggestions about a particular replacement part that would fix the problem.

hey man if I was you I would check the cocking assembly it might be wore so badly that when you pull back the slide cock indicator will not catch and reset the firing pin, or your sear spring could be broken as well here are some part#'s for you. 14020A sear spring. 13450A cocking indicator assembly.

I'm having the same problem with my Browning. After I stripped, cleaned and reassembled it now it won't cock the firing mechanism.

Slide mechanism works great but does not pull back the firing pin. I see no obvious broken parts so maybe just wear.

Were you able to fix your Browning?

Take the slide off and inspect the firing pin as well as the sear that together take care of the cocking. The firing pin should normally stick behind the sear after the slide was pulled back.

Check that those parts have no dirt built up in the "sharp angles". Also check that the sear is not completely horizontal in its normal position, but goes up about 5 degrees. Additionally, check that when you pull the trigger (with the slide dismounted), the frontpart of the sear moves down. If this is not the case, it could be that either the sear spring is not in its proper position (that is, keeping the sear latch UP) or is broken.

I think your problem is on either one of those three parts (sear spring, sear and/or firing pin)

You don't need any parts. Your problem is simple. The sear spring is on the wrong side of the sear.
