Thanks

They are a protestant organization setup to teach men to keep their promises, especially their marital vows. This is a good cause, but they do teach protestant theology. Check out the web site for St. Joseph's Covenant Keepers http://www.dads.org which is a Catholic alternative to the Promise Keepers. In Christ, Bill

I attended a PK conference a few years ago with a good friend of mine who is Baptist. It was held in a large outdoor stadium, and was attended by about 6,000 men. The speakers were excellent, the music outstanding, and the communal prayer times inspiring. There were witnesses given by several men whose lives and marriages had been transformed through PK, and also a few witnesses by wives whose husbands and marriages had been renewed. I have also attended a conference of Covenant Keepers (much smaller - about 400 men) with a few men from my parish. All the elements of the PK meeting were present, but we were also able to share the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the Eucharist, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation - for some men, the first time in 20 or 30 years. At the PK conference, I heard nothing from the stage that would conflict with Catholic teaching, and nothing that suggested any animosity toward Catholicism. Still, there is no doubt that many men in the gathering were fundamentalist Christian types who held personal and in some cases denominational animosity toward the Catholic Church and Catholicism. As far as the organization itself, Jesus said "by their fruits you will know them" (Matt 7:20), and the fruits of PK which I observed and experienced during my brief encounter with them seemed good.

Daniel, I have a question. It appears you might believe that the US Bishops position would be in conflict with Rome's position on PK. Is this accurate or am I reading too much into your question?By the way, the only problem I have seen with PK is the question that arises with most organizations: Where are the donations going?
God bless,

john,No, the US Bishop's 'official' position relative to Rome is not the impetus of my inquiry. I do not even know what this position is (If you have it or can point me to it that would be appreciated). I am quite sure it would not be controversial -- in my recent research on various issues involving our Church I have found nothing 'public' issued by the US Bishop's that directly conflicts with Rome (it all depends on what the definition of is is as Bill Clinton would say)...
