Cartoons network's saint seiya, the worst ever US dubbed anime (elected)greenspun.com : LUSENET : Animes : One Thread |
Well just wanted to say that the american version of SAINT SEIYA as been elected by a worlwide panel of fans (jap, spanish, french, italian, etc...) the world's nastiest dub anime, not only theres never been such a censorship (in fact no one as ever changed the story to the point where when a guy dies the dub version will say he "lost is knightly powers")but the scenario was dramatically changed ( won't go in detail it's too long) I wanted to thank cartoon networks for the laught they're giving to the rest of the world and the few consideration the 're showing to the american public, puritanisme can really be dangerous but i'd like your opinion on it what do you think, did they go too far this time ?

Sigh, what can you do? That's just how our culture operates. It is very surprising how a culture which gave birth to such progressive and modern icons as Elvis, McDonalds, and dare I say it, even Madonna have issues with parts of anime and manga that come from overseas. I guess to Mainstream America, animes are just silly cartoons... things only kids would watch. Guess they think we can't handle it. But then again, public prime time tv has nothing outrageous either, so I guess we may just be losing our coolness. I want America to be adventerous again! What happened to all in the family? I'm not old enough to have watched Archie Bunker, but I'd sure like to get to watch another such character. Heh but we don't have it all bad, other cultures are restrictive in other ways. In Japan, high school students aren't allowed to hold jobs or date, just study. (I'm pretty sure about the job thing but not too sure about the dating thing... can you imagine? Those Japanese kids have it rough) Like they say, you win some, you lose some. Sorry about going off on tangents, I'd erase this post but its just a waste to erase all the typing I've done up till now, so you'll just have to forgive me.

Sometimes I think the USA just makes crappy dubs in order to try and hide the great talent the japanese have for animation, either that, or they think it's completely for kids, my God, if there's anything that can send your imagination to places you've never dreamed of is animation, why censor it? anyway, I'm from Mexico, and I must say, Mexicans aren't good at too many things, but we ARE THE BEST! at dubbing Anime! (Take Note: Mexican Spanish "Not Spain Spanish") we are even better than the Japanese Original voices as well, "Sometimes" anyway, just wanted to point out as one thing of respect for the Japs, THERE'S NO CURSING IN JAPANESE, Period! Why censor culture, I consider it an insult to do it, In Japan there's only HARD words, There's no such thing as a curse. Thank you.
