There is a lot of speculation about Who will be the next Pope. Some people say he should be from tha American Continent, others that he should be Italian, reverting to the previous trend, and still others think that he should be a non-Italian with some Jewish ancestry. The last ones quote some prophecy of St Malachy. Who exactly was St. Malachy and what crediblity do his prophecies have?

From what we have been able to find, St. Malachy lived during the times of the crusades. During his time many mistakenly feared the end times had come so G-d told Malachy of the remaining popes until the end times to end those fears and help people relax. All these popes down though the ages existed and each of the names they had meant something to them in their time, though often this became manifest only after they died. Below we have the prophecies from John Paul II to the last pope.

John Paul, as the text above states, was named De labore Solis which may be because the omen of Revelations 12 was seen in his time, on September 12th 1999 above Israel just before the Days of Awe. Yet what has puzzled scholars and lay people alike is that John Paul II is not followed by one pope, but two and neither of these carry the full information as the former popes did. That is Gloria olivae carried the number of pope 111, while Petrus Romanus carried the description. Many theories have been given for why this anomaly is there, which one can get off the Web Site already linked above. Yet if this prophecy is true and its validity over the last thousand years certainly suggests this, then the answer to the puzzle above must be within Scripture. So what might scripture reveal?

We see a clue in our first pope, Saint Peter because he did not rule alone, rather shared his responsibilities with Saint Paul who had papal-like authority over the uncircumcised believers of the first century, while Pope Peter ruled the circumcised, Gal.2.8. So is there any evidence that this could resurface in the End Times? The answer we feel strongly is yes. In La Sallette's vision we read that:

"Enoch and Eli will be put to death".

And in the Fatima vision we read:

"Beneath the two arms of the Cross there were two Angels each with a crystal aspersorium in his hand, in which they gathered up the blood of the Martyrs and with it sprinkled the souls that were making their way to God."

Lastly, if the Canon is complete and prophecy is fully given there, then all of these above prophesies must exist in the written Word as well. We believe this also is true.

We find two prophets in Rev.11, which not only describes their missions, but also gives clues to the type of death they will suffer, Rev.11.8. Also individual descriptions are given of these in Zech.3 and 4, and we also learn from the "names" given them clues to their missions as they are similar (and one same) as the two men of the late Babylonian period, Y'shua and Zerub'babel. These two brought Judah home from Babylon and were instrumental in building the second Temple. The names as given in Zechariah however are Y'hoshua and Zerub'babel. Yet prophecy above clearly states the SEAT will be with in hands of Pope Petrus Romanus as it was in hands of Peter, not Paul. And as Zerub'babel was governor of Judah historically, thus we believe Petrus Ramanus is the same man as Zerub'babel who is described in Zech.4. Gloria olivae on the other hand we believe is Y'hoshua. Lastly, the only clue we glean from La Sallette's vision is that Eli was once the high priest, and according to our understanding of Zech.8.11 Y'hoshua will also have this yoke upon him (and Y'shua was also the high priest in his day).

So this is briefly what we see in Malachy's prophecies and why we believe they are true as well as Scripturally sound. Unfortunately, we cannot right now expand this knowledge because we are working on answering the questions we've posed to the Rad Trad on Fatima that is how it is seen in the Gospels and the Apocrypha.

Anyone interested in this subject would do well to read this page, prepared by orthodox Catholic apologists who take a balanced, open-minded approach.

The Church has not pronounced authoritatively (in either direction) on the alleged prophecies allegedly written by St. Malachy. For this reason, we have a duty to avoid speaking for or against them in a way that would hint to others that they have been approved or disapproved.

My opinion? There is so much "meat" in the sure doctrines of the faith -- the PUBLIC revelation of God -- that it is unwise to begin investing a major portion of one's time and efforts in the areas of interpretation and proliferation of PRIVATE revelations, particularaly those upon which the Church has not yet pronounced.
