Onizuka's voices jap vs enggreenspun.com : LUSENET : Animes : One Thread |
I just finished watching GTO in japanese, and so now I watched them in both english and jap. I just want to know which voices do ya think fits Onizuka's personality better: english voice actor, or the japanese voice actor. I usually like the japanese voices better, but this is the first time that I think the english job actually did an incredible job in portraying Onizuka's character. I like them both equally.

The english version if you ask me. I mostly like dubs for example: Goku from DBZ sounded like a girl in Japanese, but in the english dub he acctually seemed sincere. Even in GT when goku's voice is spoken by a girl, it sounds more like a young boy and fits his personality.

Same thing for Kenshin. Japanese voice actor was either a woman or a really woman man. English Onizuke was a little hard to fully take since he also played Spike from Bebop and Roger from Big-o nd Shishioh from kenshin. He's spread a little to thin.

I watch GTO dubbed because I think David Lucas' voice suites Onizuka very well, just as it did for Spike in the Cowboy Bebop dub. The guy's a great actor who can make the coolest character even cooler. I'm not sure if a woman voiced Goku in the Japanese version, but the actor/actress did make Goku sound feminine. In Rurouni Kenshin's case a woman did voice him, so I like Richard Hayworth as Kenshin better.
