I have a Boxwood stove. I have two questions: 1)Can you season the top of the stove so that food won't stick? 2) What is the best way to keep the stove clean?Little Bit Farm

No, I don't plan on cooking on the stove top, except maybe to heat tortillas. I want to season the stove to make it easy to clean spills. I also want to make it more wipeable.Little Bit Farm

you want to cook right on top of the stove? I would think that the heat would "unseason" it whenever it got too hot. why not just use cast iron pans / skillets on top of the stove? The top of my stove gets ash on it everytime I open the door,, wouldnt want to eat to much of that

I agree with Stan. Do you really want to cook "on top" of the stove?? I also use cast iron or stainless steel on top of my wood cookstove....with covers! Less ashes that way :-)!!!!

Ive spilled oil, beeswax and such on my stove,, looks nice a pretty for awhile, as long as it isnt used. When it gets used, it burns off, only thing I can think of that MIGHT stand up to that constant heat would be Engine Oil, I think even that would burn off after a time, and the stink ! ! ! EWWWWW. If you want to keep it black, STOVE BLACK , works fine.

Littlebit, when we purchased our wood cookstove, we were told that Amish ladies use wax paper to clean the stove top with. I have been using that too and it works great. You can use it while the stove is hot too - just be careful with your hands. Once a week, when we let the stove go out to take out ashes and clean around the oven, I give it a good going over with the wax paper while the stove is cool. When something does spill onto the waxed top, it will just sort of bakes off and any residue can be scraped off easily. Maybe it would do this without being "waxed" but at least the wax paper keeps it from rusting. I have not yet had a big spill to try to clean, though.I love my stove and just realized that a wood cookstove has the "original" self-cleaning oven! :-). Anything that cooks over onto the oven, just turns to ash later and when the stove is cool, it can simply be wiped out! Neat!!

I haven't tried it but maybe some of that spray on non-stick stuff would work.
