Thank You South Dakota

Thanks South Dakota for being a moral leader in the US. A by partisan bill in South Dakota is challenging Roe v. Wade. The bill criminalized abortion, making it a 5-year felony. It also defines life as starting at conception. Hooray!!

Please pray for the legistalors of South Dakota and May God Bless them.

Good job, Scott.
I have often wondered if we would see such a thing happen in any state during our lifetimes. South Dakota is one strange place. It has two great bishops [Cupich and Carlson in Rapid City and Sioux Falls?], plus Fr. Robert J. Fox [Fatima Family Apostolate in Alexandria], with many conservative citizens who elected a conservative state congress and governor. But somehow they go brain-dead when it comes time to elect senators -- sending two pro-death Demo(n)crats in Tom "Excommunicated" Daschle and Tim Johnson.

God bless you.
John

Praise God for this ruling! I don't understand, though. I thought Supreme Court or any federal ruling supercedes state laws. Thus, Roe v. Wade would've overturned any existing anti-abortion laws in any of the states back when the case was ruled on. So how can they make this law?

Lord, help the rest of our nation.

they can make it a law because it is a different kind of restriction than in previous cases, which means to turn this law over it would have to go through another court procedure.

Yeah, they call this a test case. Like the article said, SD came up with the law for the sole purpose of challenging Roe v. Wade.

HI! I live in South Dakota! You drive through our state, and you will see MANY billboards stating "choose life, your mother did" and many more! It is truly wonderful to see! As for our government, they are TRULY lacking in this state! At this time, election is going on. Senator Daschle and also Stephanie Herseth are both back financially for campaigning by Emily's List. And, there are MANY who are not voting for them due to this, and I am one of them! They will NOT see my vote! Children are NOT a commodity to be disposed of lightly! Children are a blessing and a gift! There are many things happening in South Dakota to try and get abortion dealt with. it is a long process, and as such, will take time. I just pray it happens sooner than later! As a mother of 6 children, I have always believed that life started at the time of conception! As I told the Daschle Office worker who called to ask about my vote, "When he starts focusing on the issues involving our children, and this includes the murder of our unborn children through abortion, THEN call me. Until then, I will vote the other way"! Also, not sure if this was known by all or not, but, Senator Daschle voted to KEEP partial birth abortion legal UNTIL elections came up! That is when he voted against it! What kind of person does that say he is? NOT someone I want in office. God Bless Our Children. Alice in SD

-the government could go one step further and push for tax exemption (s) that begin at conception... It would be an interesting debate...

Whatever happened to this bill? Was it signed and is working through appeals, or did it NOT get signed by the governor?

Frank,

The bill died a 'technical' death --a chronlogical history:
