We had a similar thing happen in Canada. A court forced a Catholic school to allow a student to bring his same sex partner as his graduation date. In the fall-out the courts have dealt a real blow to religious freedom essentially saying, "You have the right to practice your religion in its essential teaching, but the courts can restrict your religion on its non-essential teachings. And, the courts will define what is and is not an essential part of your religion." Lovely.I place my hope in this thought, which my Archbishop reminded us of recently, "Empires and Kings come and go, but the Catholic Church remains forever."

While I disagree with the court's decision (and hope that it is overturned), CC caused their own problems, in a way...."The Supreme Court ruled that the charity is not a religious employer because it offers such secular services as counseling, low-income housing and immigration services to the public without directly preaching about Catholic values.
The court also noted that the charity employs workers of differing religions."
I can actually see why the court ruled as it did, given the above, and, imho, CC shouldn't be offering ANYTHING without Catholic values being preached. I have the same issue with a local "crisis pregnancy" organization--a person I talked to on the phone (I was trying to donate a practically new baby playpen and a swing, which they REFUSED to accept, btw) actually let slip that they "don't want to offend anyone by mentioning God", yet this organization is constantly asking for phone volunteers, and baby/maternity clothing in parish bulletins.
I don't get it. What argument are you going to use on a scared teenager, that they need to bear this precious child so that someone is around to pay taxes so that the adult can continue to collect welfare?

-well...My knowledge & experience with Catholic Charities involves the pastoral modernistic secular counseling services they offer spouses in troubled marriages -when I found out they recommended 'going with feelings', divorce and even promoted annulment I was shocked...
I have determined that the organization is truly and completely Catholic in name ONLY and as a result many are being misled...

Is 'Catholic Charities' really Catholic anymore?
