How can I reformat without losing my pictures? Additionally, how can I download my pictures from a smart card when I get a refromat message.

Where did you get the reformat message from? Camera or PC? Once you re-format, you will lose your pix although data recovery specialists may be able to recover even after a reformat. Some software like Ontrack Easy Recovery Pro can do the trick but this is very expensive software. Do a google for flash memory recovery and you may find something. You could also download PhotoRescue and see if your pix can be recovered. If it shows good results, then you can pay for it and get a full version. Good luck Lawrence
