greenspun.com : LUSENET : San Francisco History : One Thread

I have been searching for info on the Hotel Senator that was located at 519 Ellis St. in San Francisco California. It was opened in September 1924. If anyone can help me or tell me good places to access this info it would be greatly appreciated.

hi, the "Hotel Senator" is now owned and operated by Community Housing Partnership, and provides low income housing for persons with multiple challenges -formerly homeless,drugs/ alcohol, etc.; and families.

The neon sign "Hotel Senator' was restored approximately three years ago i think.

What are you trying to learn?

In the late 1980's, it was still operating as a hotel, both for residents and tourists. It was then sold either in the late 80s or early 1990s to CHP.. CHP would know much of the history of the building.

The Hotel Senator was a vaudeville hotel where various stage performers stayed. Dancer/Singer Donald O'Connor and singer/actress Judy Garland met there while their families were in town doing shows. It is reputed that other stars such as George Burns and Gracie Allen, Eddie Cantor, and the Three Stooges stayed there while doing the vaudeville circuits.
