John himself answered that question ..."They asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" And he said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" And he answered, "No." (John 1:21)

Derrick,In addition I would say, read Luke chapter 1, where the angel Gabriel says that John the Baptist would come "in the spirit and power of Elijah". It would seem John had a share in Elijah's spirit.

That coudl be more of less symbolic though. Or, suhc as if I said John Paul 2 was in the Spirit of St. Peter, this does not mean he IS St. Peter. Liekwise, any Chrisains coem togather, and listen to a Pastor/ Preist who speaks " I the spirit of Christ". This does not make them, spacifically, Christ.Simpley sharign the same gift of the spiritas Elija des not render him the same identity as Elija.
