AN ODD THING I SAW... FROM A "CATHLIC" T AN APOLOGISTgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread |
Here is soemthgn odd I found... I dotn think thr writer of the origional letter was Catholic at all...Just wanted to cause trouble.http://www.behindthebadge.net/apologetics/discuss105.html
Why do Christians hate Jews, blacks, and Catholics? First off, why are Christians racists? Why do you hate Jews, blacks, and Catholics?
Second, what do you think of Jehovah's Witnesses? Some of my friends have been in this cult for years and they have often tried to get me to go to their bible studies. I have refused but they keep asking. How do I get them out?
Third, I do not believe in Christianity. Why? Because I am Catholic and I believe Christianity grew out of Catholicism as a rebellious movement rather than anything that is based on fact. Quote all the bible verses you want, I don't care. I do not believe in a literal interpretation of the bible and will not accept any scripture quotes from you or anyone else in your defense of Christianity as I believe the bible is subject to multiple interpretations.
You can pray for me all you want. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT JESUS CHRIST IS OUR SAVIOR. I believe in the Virgin Mary and the Sacraments. I am Catholic. Please stop bashing our faith. We don't bash yours.
The US is a country built on religious freedom. There is no need for this intolerance of other faiths. All I ask is that you stop spreading the message that you will go to hell if you don't believe that Jesus Christ is your Savior. You don't hear muslims telling you that you'll go to hell because you don't do things their way. So stop telling us how to do ours. If you believe that we will go to hell, fine but don't tell us that because quite frankly we don't care.

First off, Christians (at least not true Christians) do not hate Jews, blacks or Catholics. You need to quit believing everything you have heard. Have people who claimed to be Christians killed or hated other people? Of course, but as I said they were not true Christians. I can prove my point. To be a true Christian you must follow what Jesus taught. So what did He teach? (Matthew 22:37-39 NIV) Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' {38} This is the first and greatest commandment. {39} And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' Now if I truly love God, I will try to follow His commandments, which tell me not to kill anyone. Also Jesus said to love our neighbors as ourselves. That is pretty hard to do if you hate people. So anyone who does hate people is not a follower of Christ and therefore is not a true Christian. As for the Jehovah's Witness, I agree they are a cult. However, your question is kind of perplexing to me. You write me and rag on me because as you say this country is built on freedom of religion and you think I am trying to deny people their religious choice, but yet you ask me how to get people out of a cult. I don't get it. If all religions are fine with you and I should quit trying to tell people about Jesus Christ, then why not just let your friends stay in the JW and forget it?
You know it is hard to respond to your kind of e-mail because you don't want to hear the facts. You think that Christianity grew out of Catholicism as a rebellion. That may make sense to someone who does not bother to read the Bible, but not to those who do. Yes there was a reformation at which time many Catholics left Catholicism because they felt that the Catholic church has lost its mooring, but it was not new beliefs, it was old, original beliefs.
You don't want to read the Bible, and that is exactly what the Catholic church wanted people to be like, that is what the reformation was about in part. People should have the Scriptures to read so they can understand for themselves.
You are also right that Muslims don't go around trying to convert people like Christians do, but their religion is different then ours. We believe that God loves everyone and wants everyone to repent and accept His forgiveness through the blood of Jesus Christ. So we try to tell people so that they can choose whether to follow God or not. It is our love for mankind that makes us speak out and tell others about God's love. If we truly hated anyone we would keep God's love and His free offer of eternal life to ourselves and not tell anyone.
You said that you do not believe that Jesus Christ is our savior. Well then you have a problem because He said: (John 14:6 NIV) Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Oh, that's right you don't believe the Bible either, because you could interpret it in too many different ways. I am sorry but this verse is pretty clear, I think most people can tell what it means.
You accused me of bashing the Catholic church, but it seems that you don't even believe what they believe. I do disagree with them on salvation. They say it is by works and we say it is through faith alone. But you know what, we both agree that Jesus Christ died for the sins of the world and that makes Him the Savior. So it seems you don't even believe what your own church is teaching.
I have many problems with the Catholic churches beliefs, but I don't go around bashing them. I have answered questions like yours and pointed out things, but if you did not want to hear my side you should not have written me. We will all stand before God one day and have to account for what we did with the knowledge we had of His Son Jesus Christ. Jesus is the only door leading to heaven and the Father. All other doors lead straight to hell. That might sound blunt or uncaring but it isn't. It is just the truth and I will continue to proclaim it so that maybe a few more people will come through the right door (Jesus Christ).

The person who wrote the answer is probably also the person who wrote the initial post. In any case Zorove, I think your intuition is on the mark. I doubt the originator is Catholic.

Actually there is nothing "odd" about this at all. It is ordinary run of the mill Catholic bashing. The opening line of the thing identifies the writer as a fundamentalist Protestant. No-one else would make a distinction between Catholics and Christians. The rest of it is too bizarre to even comment on.
