We rejoice greatly that this solemn event falls, according to the design of God's providence, during this Holy Year, so that we are able, while the great Jubilee is being observed, to adorn the brow of God's Virgin Mother with this brilliant gem, and to leave a monument more enduring than bronze of our own most fervent love for the Mother of God.

For which reason, after we have poured forth prayers of supplication again and again to God, and have invoked the light of the Spirit of Truth, for the glory of Almighty God who has lavished his special affection upon the Virgin Mary, for the honor of her Son, the immortal King of the Ages and the Victor over sin and death, for the increase of the glory of that same august Mother, and for the joy and exultation of the entire Church; by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and by our own authority, we pronounce, declare, and define it to be a divinely revealed dogma: that the Immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory.

Hence if anyone, which God forbid, should dare willfully to deny or to call into doubt that which we have defined, let him know that he has fallen away completely from the divine and Catholic Faith.

I've asked this before but never received an answer, so I'll ask again ... Which verse in the Bible supports the belief that every Christian truth has to be supported by a verse in the Bible? Protestants believe this is so, and they claim that everything they believe comes from the Bible, so please - WHERE in the Bible can I find support for this belief?

We know from scripture that some people other than Mary were taken bodily into heaven, so there's nothing impossible about it - Enoch and Elijah were taken by God into heaven. So why shouldn't God take Mary?

Did John not tell us that many other things were done by Jesus which were NOT recorded in the book? Well then, why should any Christian think that the Bible is a stand alone book exhausting all there is to be said about history and the faith?

Jesus himself did not print the book and then have everyone read it. No, he chose 12 men, taught them, promised them the authority and presence of the Holy Spirit and told them to make disciples of all nations - at no time did he command them to write Gospels and then let every man interpret it according to whim and feeling. ahem. ahem. ;-)

Nolan, Out of curiosity, could you tell us which denominations are you? Do you know the bible which you are refering to comes from the selections of books which are approved by the early church which happened to be the Catholic Church. So if you doubt the dogmas that are proclaimed by the Holy Church, then by the same token, you should doubt the scripture selected by the church. There were many other gospels, books rejected by the holy church. So on which authority do you base your reference to the quotation on the bible?
