hypothetically, what would happen if a hydraulic cylinder was bent (that being the cylinder or the rod)? how long till u would know there was a problem? and also, how do technicians check for this during their annual inspections of the hydraulic cylinder?

A hydraulic cylinder can get bent, generally not the fault of the elevator. It is easy enough to identify by a scraping noise that you will hear and feel. This scraping comes from within the cylinder that the hydraulic piston operates. The tolerance is very low inside the cylinder thus a slightly bent cylinder will tell on itself. This same scenario can happen if the piston falls away from the cab and repicks out of plumb.
