Can somebody reccomend a good resource, a book or set of books, where I can learn about the New Testament? I don't want anything too complicated, but I want something that gives me a good, in depth, basic lay out of the different perspectives in the Gospels, Pauline writing and other epistles.

I've only recently become interested in familiarizing myself more with the New Testament and I would like to be able to articulate my faith as based in the scripture. For far too long have I used everything but scripture, in which to base my faith.

scott hahn wrote a book called "The Lamb's Supper" which was a great reflection of the relation between the book of revelations and our mass celebration... definately on my recommended reading list which is sadly short.

Why not just read the new testament as is? And I cant recocmend much, I odnt havemany Catholic perspectives on my shelf... or much. I stuck tot he basics, such as Lewis and the like.

There all sorts of biblical commentaries that can be purchased, most of them quite expensive and detailed multi-volume sets. A good place to start would be a "study Bible". This is a one-volume Bible with extensive footnotes and explanations. Usually the upper half to two thirds of the page is the biblical text and the lower portion of the page is the footnotes and commentary on the text above. Make sure it is an approved Catholic study Bible. You want to know what the text actually means, under the authority of the Church to which God gave the scriptures, not just what some individual author thinks it means.

Both Scott Hahn and Catholic Answers recommended the Navarre Study Bible, which contains footnotes and comments based on the writings of the Church Fathers. You might wish to check that out.
