How do I choose my Confirmation name? I am having my Confirmation on Sept. 24, 2004 and I need to choose my name. What should I look for in choosing my name?

Answers

Ideally you should choose the name of a saint whose life particularly inspires you, or who you consider a good role model, or whom you can relate to in some particular meaningful way. A friend in heaven whose prayers of intercession can aid you on your journey until finally you can meet that person face to face in heaven.

I am so glad to hear about your future confirmation. I will be confirmed at Easter 2005, as I am converting to Catholic from Protestant. This is the one chance in your life when you will get to pick your own name, so choose wisely. I have been thinking about mine for awhile now, and I'm not totally set on anything yet, though I have some good ideas.

A great way to start would be to research the ones online that you're interested in. Read some mini-biographies about them to get some idea. See if you can relate to them in any way, through some aspect of their lives. This way, you will choose someone who can be like a companion to you, and your name will have more meaning.
