WARNING: If you take of the gas tank - Fuels Leaks!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MV Agusta F4 : One Thread

I thought I'd put in this as a separate post as a warning to new owners.

If you take of or even lift your gas tank, be very careful when you reinstall it. If you install it incorrectly, you may pinch or crush the plastic fuel coupling. The result will be a fuel leak that my happen immediately or even a few days after you have reinstalled the tank.

My local dealer advise me that it's usually better to have another person present when installing the tank to act as a spotter.

If you take the right small side fairing (the section underneath the gas tank and to the top left of the mid-fairing), you can see the plastic fuel coupling. Steve said it should normally be white. If it start to turn brown, it could indicate a leak may begin.

Also, here's a link to a previous gas leak thread: http://greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=009vM6

Hmmn. I just had this problem last week and had it resolved by Friday. What happened with mine was on my way home from a group ride, I started smelling gasoline on the stoplight. I did not bother until I got home and then checked it (duh!). Anyway, I noticed it only started to 'spray' from where the L-valve is underneath the gas tank when the engine was running.

So I called FBF and was informed that I was the second customer to have this problem. It seemed like the temperature made the plastic brittle. They replaced it with FBF which is supposedly better than the original. Later.
