Henri de Lubac--what did he get into trouble for?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread |
I would like to know. I'm reading Hans Urs von Balthasar's book on his theology (which is all gooey with praise), and between de Lubac's defenses of Origen and Tielhard de Chardin, I'm catching a wiff of some strong Hegelianism, i.e., we-are-all-on-an-inevitable-progressing-path-toward-an-Omega... blibbity blah. I've been strongly conditioned against Hegel as a theological thinker (and hence also Chardin), so I'm not exactly enjoying this.

Not "Henri de Lubac" or "de Lubac," but CARDINAL Henri de Lubac, S.J..Better to put this question to the 100% orthodox Fr. Joseph Fessio, S.J., who praises Cdl. de Lubac highly, saying that he was a victim of misunderstandings -- as have been other good people (e.g., St. Pio) who have accepted their discipline without complaint.
Best to put this question to Pope John Paul II, who named Fr. de Lubac a "prince of the Church," having found his theology to be orthodox and helpful to him personally.
Father (later Cardinal) Henri de Lubac speaks against post-Vatican-II dissent and disrespect for the pope in 1969.
