Is McDonald's Pro-Abortion?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread |
EWTN's Web of Faith said in passing that the McDonald's franchise is Pro-Abortion. Does anyone have more info?

If it's true, it would seem pretty hypocritical for a franchise that was kid friendly with their advertisings to make such a stand. I myself have never heard of it.

McDonald's claims that it does not give any financial support to Planned Parenthood. I believe this controversy arose as a result of a PP program where they were distributing coupons for a free packet of condoms, together with a McDonald's gift certificate. But McDonald's claims they are not directly involved with this program.

EWTN's Web of Faith said in passing that the McDonald's franchise is Pro-Abortion.Making the above statement was very irresponsible. This is how false (or at least questionably reliable) rumors are spread. I saw the "Web of Faith" program in question, and the above is not an accurate statement of what happened. Here is what actually happened:
The co-hosts of the show are Fr. Robert Levis and Fr. John Trigilio. It was Fr. Levis's turn to answer a question that had come in via e- mail/Internet. In the course of his answer, he mentioned McDonald's, but then said that maybe he should not, since he had been told that McDonald's was pro-abortion. Fr. Levis then quickly added a disclaimer in words to this effect: "But maybe they are not pro- abortion."
How anyone can transform those facts into the above statement ("EWTN's Web of Faith said in passing that the McDonald's franchise is Pro-Abortion") is beyond me. An apology to McDonald's and to EWTN is due.

Typist,I am seeking for more info regarding this matter; NOT accusing. Also, who watches TV with 100% attention at all times? Anyways, based on your supposedly more accurate report, assuming you were listening more attentively than I was, you still supported the fact that EWTN's Web of Faith said in passing that McDonald's is Pro-Abortion in whatever context (" he had been told") and with whatever disclaimer ("but MAYBE they are not Pro-Abortion"). Hence, my curious inquiry, "does anyone have more info? " before I make any judgments (on whether to eat or not to eat Big Macs and fries ). Therefore, my inquiry requires No apologies.

Thanks, Paul. So far, Big Macs are still a go.

Joseph, if your conscience is so dead, or if your ability to reason is so clouded, that you still try to defend your indefensible original post, even after what I have explained, then you have given up the right to use a computer to communicate publicly at a forum. Readers here deserve to have information passed on to them in a more reliable way than you have used. If I had not been here to correct your errors, many would have very wrong thoughts about McDonald's and EWTN.With your careless listenting and sloppy writing, you have damaged the names of McDonald's and EWTN, but you are so full of pride and denial that you won't apologize, and instead you try to attack me. You ought to be unable to sleep at night. Please get to confession ASAP.

"With your careless listenting and sloppy writing, you have damaged the names of McDonald's and EWTN..."I sincerely doubt it.
Despite this most agrevious internet forum attack upon the reputations of each organization, as the sun rises in the morning, everything will remain relatively intact operationally for both legendary institutions...
...you'll still be unable to obtain a decent hamburger at McDonalds, or full-strength, unadulterated Catholic Faith at EWTN.
Be not afraid.

Typist, lolHi, Em.

I've never heard of McDonald's being anything but pro-crappy food.

The moderator is out of control. Why was my post deleted?
-- brian (brian@brian.com), November 22, 2004.
Dear Brian,I assure you I am never "out of control"; and I do not recall deleting anything from this thread. Why don't you re-post your message? Then, if I did delete it, I can tell you why.
-- Paul M. (PaulCyp@cox.net), November 22, 2004.
All I know is that on more than one occasion I have seen my posts disappear. Sometimes I have seen my posts up, people respond to them, and somehow they magically disappear. I admit sometimes I can say things that are a little off topic, but I have never been crude or insulting or had any intention of hurting one's feelings or used any bad language. Why, then, are my posts repeatedly deleted?Do you have something against me Paul?
-- brian (brian@brian.com), November 25, 2004.
To your last question, absolutely not. Therefore, I repeat - please repost the message allegedly deleted, so I can see if in fact I did delete it, and if so explain why.
-- Paul M. (PaulCyp@cox.net), November 25, 2004.
I can't remember exactly what I posted and I don't have it saved on my comp, but it wen't something like this.---Joseph was clear, he wasn't sure about what he saw. He simply wanted more info. He doesn't deserve to be attacked and deserves an apology.---
That was basicially it. Why did that have to be deleted???
-- brian (brian@brian.com), November 27, 2004.
Brian,There is obviously nothing in that post which would warrant deletion, and I don't specifically remember deleting it. The most likely possibility I can think of is that sometimes when I delete a post that is in clear violation of forum rules, I also delete responses to that post.
For example, if someone posts a message saying "All you @$%&*&*$#@# Catholics are going to hell", and then someone else posts a message saying "That isn't a very charitable thing to say", I usually delete both messages, first because no-one knows what the scond message refers to, once the first message is gone; and secondly because deleting the first message without deleting the second one makes it appear that the second message refers to the post which then appears immediately above it, which causes confusion. The author of that message then may ask "what was uncharitable about what I said"?
I'm not certain that is what happened, but I suspect it is, since your post is certainly not something I would have deleted on its own merits.

"---Joseph was clear, he wasn't sure about what he saw. He simply wanted more info. He doesn't deserve to be attacked and deserves an apology.---"Thanks, Brian. I gave this thread the title, "Is McDonald's Pro-Abortion?" ... clearly asking a question. I wonder if Typist works for McDonald's.

I gotcha Paul. No problem.I'm sorry if I came across too strongly.
