Rant: obvious and useless miracle

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

This is a rant. The yearly miracle has happened, and I am filled with wonder and a bit of anger. The weather here in So. California has been unexpectedly rainy. It rained on and off for almost a week. It is predicted to do so for the next week too. And once again the Rose Bowl parade occurred in a non-rainy stretch. The clouds parted. The parade happened. The clouds returned. Year after year this happens, missing only 6 time in over a century. Now, So. Cal. is mostly dry. So some of this is not really the stuff of miracles. But this year and last were very strange in this way. One feeling I have is ‘who paid off who or what to have this happen’(amused, admiring). And the other is ‘why was this wasted on a parade’ (angry)? Especially a parade that will lure people to our region where, despite having stolen the water from the entire American South West, we still have too many people for the amount of water we use.

Thank you for listening to me get my feelings off of me.

Ok, as this is not well known outside of So. Cal., I may have to explain. Every year, with 6 exceptions, for well over a centuary, the Rose Bowl Parade has been held in dry conditions. Year after astounding year it keeps going. Some years it is not much of a miracle. And this year it was even more than last year. Rain the day before, parting of the clouds the day of, dry parade, clouds return, rain expected for a week! It is almost a slap in the face of anyone who really needs a miracle.

We actually get our water from almost the whole of the west. Idaho supplies us, San Fran. Suppiles us, the mormons are dryer because of Los Angeles.

God sends rain where and when he pleases. If he wants the Rose Bowl to be dry that is his doing. Miracles will come when God sees fit, having a rainless Rose Bowl does not deprive someone who needs a real miracle, as these things are not limited, or rationed, they are acts of God.

Your emotions, and energy would be much better used in prayer, don't waste them being angry with God for giving So. Calif. a dry Rose Bowl.

I heard of a cowboy who performed a miraculous rope trick. They don't make this kind of cowboy anymore. He roped a Grizzly bear and colored him gold. Not really gold, more off-white, and gold tints. --Saint Pecos Bill.
