Why doesthe cathoilc church misleads its people as to their true spiritual condition is by classifying sin into categories. Catholics are told that there are two kinds of sin, venial and mortal.

The Bible teaches the opposite. It says that all sins are mortal: "the wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23). The Scriptures warn fornicators and drunkards not to deceive themselves; they will not inherit the kingdom of God unless they repent and forsake their sin (Proverbs 28:13; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10). Those who continue to practice sin should realize that they have never been born again (1 John 2:3-4; 3:4-10).

In this life a Catholic can make satisfaction for his sins by performing voluntary acts of penance, such as abstaining from certain foods, saying a series of prayers, offering up his sufferings, or giving money to the poor. The individual may choose what form of penance he will perform, or, as in the sacrament of confession, a priest can assign an act of penance.

Sorry, but the Bible contradicts you. What does "mortal" mean? It means "leading to death", does it not? If a soldier receives a "mortal wound" on the battllefield, we know that his wound led to his death.

"If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask and God will for him give life to those who commit sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death; I do not say that he should make request for this. All unrighteousness is sin, and there is a sin not leading to death." (1 John 5:16-17)

Notice that this passage clearly states that there are sins which do not lead to death, that is, sins that are not mortal. It also says that sins which are not mortal are easily forgiven - just ask and it is done. If you look up the word "venial" in a dictionary, you will see that it means "easily forgiven". Allow me to paraphrase this passage for you:

"If anyone sees his brother committing a sin that is not mortal, he shall ask and God will for him give life to those who commit sins which are not mortal. There are sins that are mortal; I do not say that he should make request for these. All unrighteousness is sin, but there are sins which are not mortal."

There it is, plain as day, from God's Word to your ears. Could it be stated more clearly? If the Church of the Apostles didn't recognize the difference between mortal and venial sin, why would John have written this??

He's got you there, Nolan. Your theology on sin conveniently excluded those very important verses which clearly teach that there are mortal sins and not-mortal sins (venial). Even when I was in the Pentecostal church, which taught as you believe, I knew both by scripture AND by intuition that murder was worse than lying or that adultery was worse than pride. It just is.

Nolan doesn't comprehend much, except that by his Bible alone, he's been forgiven all his sins. But nowhere did an apostle of Jesus Christ write, ''Read here for forgiveness of sin.''-- PETER said, 'Repent and be BAPTISED every one of you: for the forgiveness of your sins.'' (Acts 2, :38) And even Paul, who had seen the apparition of Jesus on the Damascus road, had to be commanded, ''And why dost thou delay? Get up and be baptised and wash away thy sins, calling on His name!'' (Acts, 22 :16) --Baptism is entrance into the Holy Church founded by Jesus Christ for all nations. (Matt, 28 :19-20)

That is one Church on earth, ours by the grace of Our Holy Redeemer: the Catholic Church founded on the apostles. Your own ancestors belonged to the Catholic Church. Today their descendents are lost sheep without a shepherd. Jesus Christ is calling you back once more. That's how come WE speak of Him and his Church. Not just to play games with you.

The only unforgivable sin I can think of is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit--according to Scripture...which ultimately is rejection of God and His truth. This leads to death because Jesus is the only way to the Father and if you don't have Him because you have rejected the only thing that will reveal Him to you then that sin obviously leads to death.

John was probably refering to people who left Christian fellowship and joined the antichrists--these people put themselves out of reach of prayer because of their rejection of the Holy Spirit and only means of salvation.
