Communion after divorcegreenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread |
So can anyone just give me a straight "YES" or "NO" answer. I am divorced from my first wife.. I am married again, which doesn't mean anything to the Chruch... Can I go to communion??? I am trying to set an example for my young son. Thanks . Bill.

Assuming that you are looking for a Catholic answer, you should not receive the Eucharist. The reasoning is reinforced with the following verses from the Bible:Mark 10:11,12 - "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another, commits adultery against her;"
1 Corinthians 11:27 - Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord.
It would probably be best if you made an appointment with a priest to discuss your situation. The Internet can seem like a peanut gallery sometimes.

"Can I go to communion???"Bill, if you were NOT remarried the answer is YES--- HOWEVER If you ARE remarried without having the 1st marriage annulled the answer is NO!
"I am trying to set an example for my young son."
If it was me I would set the Example first.

NO. Presuming you are having sexual relations with your "second wife". Unless your first marriage has been annulled by the Church and your "second" marriage has been validated in the Church.
