What were the names of the 12 apostles?

How come Mark and Luke aren't apostles? I always thought they were?

Who were they and why have I thought for so long that they were apostles?

mark,luke and the other writers of the gospels weren't his apostels...the gospels were written later after jesus's death/going to heaven

The 12 Apostles:

Peter, Andrew, James and John, Phil and Bart and Matt and Tom, James the Less and Jude and Simon And Judas who betrayed the God-man.

On the first Pentecost Sunday, the Apostles laid hands on St Matthias (the first consecration of a bishop after Christ consecrated the original 12) to replace Judas.

St Paul is also referred to as an Apostle as he saw the risen Christ and was sent forth by the other Apostles to many Gentile communities.

St Matthew and St John were gospel writers (Evangelists) AS WELL as Apostles. St Mark is thought to have been close to St Peter, and St Luke was close to Our Lady as well as to St Paul. Both St Mark and St Luke are thought to have been among the Gentile disciples who followed Jesus during His earthly ministry.

We know from both Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scripture (Acts 1:23-26) that Matthias was chosen to replace Judas. We know from Sacred Tradition, Sacred Scripture (2 Tim 1:6), and early non-Scriptural writings that the laying on of hands was the means by which men were ordained to ministry in the early Church and this has continued to be true in every age since. I am not aware of any authoritative source which states that the ordination of Matthias occurred on Pentecost.

laying on of hands does not mean that someone is ordained it shows are giving of power (that could be spiritial or not)

Sorry my mistake, Matthias was CHOSEN by the Eleven Apostles some time between Ascension Thirsday and Pentecost, and received the Holy Spirit along with the others on Pentecost.
