Does She Need to be Confirmed?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread |
My friend is in the process of completing RCIA and becoming a Catholic. I am her sponsor. We are in a quandry. She has been baptized and confirmed in the Church of England. As I read in the Catechism she then does not receive these sacraments again. However, the Deacon at the Church says she needs to be confirmed. Is this correct? If not, can you explain. Thanking you in advance. Barbara

The C of E baptism is considered valid by the Catholic Church, because anyone can perform a baptism. The C of E confirmation is considered invalid by the Catholic Church, because the C of E does not possess valid Holy Orders. Hence, your friend will need to be confirmed (validly) upon entry to the Catholic Church.
