Wiring decoder for Mantuagreenspun.com : LUSENET : Wiring for DCC : One Thread |
Would appreciate anyone's assistance in wiring a Mantua engine. The wiring is different than Athearn. Thanks,in advance, for your help. Ron Willett

Ron,Which Mantua are you after? I take it by your reference to an Athearn, you are probably talking diesel.
Here's my write-up on the Mikado should you have a steam locomotive. Please note that I have my own domain now and am no longer with AOL.

I have most, if not all, of the Mantua steam locomotives. I just haven't gotten around to putting decoders in anything but the Mikado's. I am fairly certain all their steam locomotives would be nearly identical in the approach you would use to wire them.
I believe the same would be true of the diesels. I own Mantua-based diesels, but from the era when Tyco owned the product line and was running the Mantua name into the ground. Tyco had several motors they used and none of them worked. I can only hope that Mantua revamped the diesel guts as they did the steam guts.

In 1994 Mantua revamped their entire diesle line and came out with a can motor-flywheel gear towered truck arrangment similar to that used by Athearn. While I do not personally own one of the newer Mantua diesels, A freind of mine that does says that wiring plan is nearly identicle to Athearn's. I assume therefore the decoder intilation process would be similar.
