slander by a police chief???greenspun.com : LUSENET : Law Of The Workplace : One Thread |
After the death of my father, actually on the very evening of his funeral, the chief of police of the small northern California town in which dad lived was contacted by my dad's widow about a situation I as trustee of dad's estate handled that she did not agree with. The police chief asked to speak with me whereupon he literally assualted me with comments like we, dad's children, were "a pack of vultures," asked repeatedly when I was leaving town, stated I wasn't welcome in town, stated I had "no jurisdiction" to handle my dad's estate, stated that I better pay attention to what I was doing and think real hard about it because he was sure I was trying to pull a fast one and he'd make sure I paid. It was one of the most unsettling moments of my life. I would very much like to file some sort of complaint but I'm at a loss as to what to do or how to do it. Does his behavior warrant action on my part?
